You are quite right in your observation, the boy racers are heading for Mead Lane which they roar up and down safe from the police presence in the town.

I had a 'hot hatch' next to me on Friday night at the Old Cross traffic lights, revving up and riding the clutch, ready to race me into oblivion. The tension was electric... The lights were red, he and his mates were in the left hand lane (heading for St Andrew Street) I was in the right. Then, suddenly... almost unpredictably, the lights turned green and he was off, blurring into the distance with the roar of his engine and a cloud of testosterone... Needless to say he won, as I was still calmly waiting for my light to change to green, thus allowing me to turn right into Cowbridge and go home.

Why do these people always have a baked bean can for an exhaust on their cars?

It's the young persons version of a Garfield, nodding dog, or "Baby on board" sticker. All are entirely tasteless and serve no purpose whatsoever, but they all sell.

That would depend on an offence being committed. You can't arrest anybody for being young and having bad taste in automobile accessories.

How about hats in cars? Toothbrush moustache and pork pie. Through to baseball backward. I always give them a wide berth! P

Recently i saw a documentary (on German telly admittedly) about a big festival in Austria for these types of cars. Apart from the obvious drunken, leering, etc antics (german telly after all) some of the cars were true works of art. It's not my bag, but I CAN see why people get into it. Shame about the noise though.

It's not your bag? Surely your handle denotes super-wide wheels, whip aerial and go-faster stripes on a Ford Anglia (old Hamlet advert). Seriously though, there may not be an offense being committed. The law on motorcycle exhausts is draconian, post 2003, but because most MPs are car drivers, they didn't extend it to cars. Being smaller and easily insurable engined cars on the whole, the impression of speeding may be misleading. A lot of fuss and bravado for very little go, if you get my meaning.

Was always more of a rag top man in the days before the wife, kids and mortgage dragged me back to the realms of the mere mortal.

How would you know that? Kids have always modified cars (I couldn't afford to), but I do have a full stainless H&S on mine now. It's almost the size of a baked bean tin too. Wonder what that makes me? [:)] It's the driving that's the problem, and the choice of tailpipe is quite legal unless it breaches sound and emission limits.

well im new on here, and started this thread, my interest was week end late night noisey racing, the thread then turned into bean cans, whip areas, wooden back rubs, go fast strips, and for some strange reason, genitalia etc, etc, i must admite, its probably time to let this thread = die a death,= excuse the pun untill one of these racers embed themselves into a local shopfront, or another vehicle, regarding the genitalia quote thread, reminds me of another quote i believe from one of the marx brothers, = you wouldent want it hanging off the end of your knose as a wart missuse = [:o)] regards to all
