traffic into london
I have been commuting into north London for the past year (need my car for work otherwise i'd use the delightful wagn service). since the roadworks on the M11 started, the A10 has become a carpark - leaving at 7am it takes me an hour to the M25 junction. Does anyone know any cunning shortcuts? I've tried going through cheshunt but this is just as bad. i've even resorted to going via hatfield down to potters bar but although the traffic moves on this route, it takes just as long... any help gratefully received!![:0]

I do a similar journey to enfield most days sometimes further down the A10, I find that the difference between leaving at 6.30 rather than 7 almost always makes a huge difference. I know the idea of getting up that bit earlier wont be thrilling, try my technique of having someone to have a coffee waiting for you when you arrive! It make the journey that bit quicker! Just as a guide I can usually get to Brimsdown (if you know where that is) in 25-30 mins when leaving mid week between 5.30 & 6.30am. Although it does help that I live off Ware road just next to the roundabout where to police are, so takes me 1 minute to get onto the A10. A head start me thinks!

Up to a couple of years ago I had the joys of travelling to New Southgate every day. I found that the quickest route was usually going via Essendon and Potter Bar.

I work in Elephant & Castle and sometimes have to drive to work because Network Rail are constantly working (or not) on the tracks.
As I live on the north side of Hertford I tend to use the A1 to get into London - this seems to be the quickest way at most times of day
If I go through essendon and potters bar it can be almost as quick but it is 4 miles shorter. Also if there isn't much traffic the fuel economy is pretty good too[8D]

I use the cross country routes via Essendon, Potters Bar..............or via Newgate Street and Cuffley.

I drive to haringey. unfortunately, I am the only one in my office who starts at 8am - everyone else starts at 9am. I only do 8am to "avoid the traffic"... this worked til the M11 roadworks fiasco..
i've been doing the essendon, potters bar route, but this takes just as long, although the traffic moves... what is the route via newgate st?

The Newgate Street cut through can sometimes get busy as well. And unless you are used to those roads you can expect to get lost a few times while you are getting used to it.

I actually work near St. George's Circus at the bottom of Blackfriars Road.
