Can anyone tell me of some nice woods nearby or within a couple of miles. I want to do some rambling and nice autumn walks with a toddler in tow. I wondered if there are nice places nearby that people use. I have looked up a couple of sites, but there is not much info on exactly where they are. Thanks

Broxbourne Woods - head up to Brickendon and turn left after the Farmer's Boy (just before the village green). After about half a mile, there are two car-parks on the left hand side. There are maps showing a few different circular walks through the woods. It's not very bike-friendly, though, as sections of the track are raised boardwalks. Park in Bramfield and head into the woods through one of the many entrances to the north of the village.

broxbourne woods are very good. also there's woods up north of hertford managed by the forestry comission which are possibly better. err, bramfield area.. there's also some good lakes as well - presumably ex quarry places.

Also try Balls Wood at Hertford Heath, access is via Elbow lane if you are walking/cycling or The Roundings if you are driving. But please note it can get quite wet/muddy and that access is for foot users only, no bikes/horses etc.

At the end of cecil road there is a foot path which you can walk all the way to bayford on, through forests, streams and history!

Please be aware that if you are driving to any of the aforementioned places it is essential that you remove all valuables from your car and activate all anti theft and immobiliser devices on your car as I'm afraid that thieves operate in all these areas

Thats the one! There used to be a sea mine in the woods there and as children it was rolled everywhere. But it has long rusted away now . The war memorial is for the Baker family (I think it was something to do with the white house). There is also tons of Sloes dripping off of the bushes along that walk too! On the subject of woods, does anybody know who purchased the woods behind Cowper Crescent?? I was told it was the person who lives in the house in the woods! he's knocked down his orginal house and building another one.
