Hidden Hertford river trips
The Hidden Hertford project will be commencing river trips on the weekend of April 12/13 and then monthly on the second Saturday/Sunday of each month until September 2008 to coincide with the Farmers Markets.
We are looking to offer space on the craft especially for voluntary groups involved with the disabled, handicapped and disadvantaged including both young and old, and local schools. The craft have facilities for wheelchair access although this is restricted to two per trip. The object is to offer the opportunity to enjoy a cruise along the River Lea for people who might not otherwise feel that this would be possible.
The trips are also open to the public but passengers are limited to 12 per trip owing to insurance and licensing regulations.
If you are involved with a voluntary group and think we can help you please contact me through my profile in the first instance. We are able to offer a limited number of free places but for the majority of trips which will be of an hour and half duration there will be a fee in the region of £10 - £12 per person.

The only thing that should be "Hidden" in Hertford, are these tired and noisy boats. Value for money, I think not!
I havent even mentioned pollution!

Good gawd.
Old Cross - why not move away if you don't like living in a town surrounded by 5 rivers, many of which have 'noisy' boats on them?

Perhaps you should mention pollution, since canal transport is so radically less polluting than almost anything else which is powered by an internal combustion engine.[:D]

Sloop' - what a kind and considerate thought.
The following local groups may well be interested in your suggestion and from which many of their "members" would take great benefit from the stimulation and experience offered.
You might want to contact Jan Liversage, Head Teacher at Amwell View School in Stanstead Abbots or Alison Middleton, Head Teacher at Middleton School, Hoe Lane. The kids at these two excellent local schools come from all over East Herts and have varying degrees of learning disabilities and other handicaps.
Our local Mencap also run several groups at Grove Cottage, Bishops Stortford.
Or, there is CHIPS (Children's Integrated Playscheme) who operate from the clinic on Bull Plain.

Thanks Woody; will be in touch with these over next week or so.
This last weekend was very much a fact finding mission - we had aseveral wheelchair users who managed with the minimum of difficulty to board the craft owing to the ramp and lift. A few other issues came up which have to be resolved but are nowhere near insurmountable.
Unfortunately unable to use the Stort Challenger on future trips but have use of a similar but smaller day boat so Old Cross wil not be woken up by the side thrusters.
However owing to what I now have discovered is a Board of Trade regulation can only take 12 passengers including carers so there is a need to book early. My phone did not stop ringing all week so pleased with the interest shown. Booking details will appear shortly. Hope to have tour commentary on MP3's and a map available by May.
