does anyone know when the terraced houses in fanshawe street bengeo were built, and their history. thanks

Not sure how the numbers run but in 1891 there are only a few houses listed 1, 2 etc by 1901 there are also 5-17, 27-41, 4, 10-26 so those house were built between 1891-1901 any others must be after 1901 but until the 1911 census come out I can't tell you which ones were built between those dates. HALS can probably help with maps of what was where when.

Ours was built in 1902 I believe. The building in our "block" has, at various points in its past, been a semi-detached house (with a whopping great house on one side), flats/bedsits and now three terraces.

I have been taliking to a lady who used to live at no 13, she tells me when she moved in in the 1950's they were told that house was 100 years old then so that makes that block of 4 I belive built around 1850. The interesting thing is that Fanshawe Street as it is now used to be called Molewood Road and we think only the end between Byde Street and Elton Road was Fanshawe Street. The name was changed when the present Molewood Road houses were built. Leave it with me I know a couple of people who should know the exact answer on this and may know what was built first so I will see what I can find out later in the week for you.

On the map of 1880 it was Molewood Road and the houses do not appear by the 1897 Map it is Fanshawe Street and the house with 12 and 14 in seem to be ther so we are pinning it down. On the 1891 census there are a number of cottages in Molewood Road with names not numbers, do 12 and 14 have names do you know? Might have to go and look!! The deeds should tell you exactly if you can get hold of a copy of them from the owners , if I can be more specific I will let you know.

I think you are probably looking at around 1895- 1900 then but only the deeds can tell you for sure I think.
