Taxi fares
Just got back from a night out in Hertford. A really enjoyable night out soured by the £19.50 taxi bill when I was dropped off at my flat in Bengeo after picking up a taxi in Fore Street.
This seems an extraordinarily high rate for travelling a couple of miles up the road, and having never ever had a taxi fare in excess of £9 before. Is this normal these days post 12 am, and in the current economic climate with rising (and falling) oil prices? (Oil was $129 a barrel today)?

Seriously though that does sound rather expensive but then I've not used a taxi in years.

That's seems an awful lot. May be you could ring the taxi company & ask what the charge would be for the same journey at that time in the morning & see what they say.

I'd be inclined to contact EHDC who issue the licences for cabs and discuss it with them, assuming of course that it was a licensed cab you used. It would help if you had the name of the cab firm, and I know it's not likely, but if you had the plate no. of the cab that would help to identify the driver as well. That is an outrageous price. I've come from Hatfield late at night for £25, so £19.50 from Fore St to Bengeo is ridiculous. Hope you didn't tip the driver

why on earth did you pay it?
Assuming you were not in the middle of no-where and on your own I would have told the driver to go to hell.
No way it should cost 20 quid for a ten minute journey.
I've done hertford to bengeo enough times over the years and it costs about 9/10 quid at 2am or thereabouts.

This certainly seems like a rip off - did the driver actually ask for £19.50, or did you give him (Or Her) a twenty pound note that may (however unlikely it may be) have been mistaken for a tenner?

Stevenage station to Hertford North cost me £30 on my latest drunken kip after cricket at Lords , plus the £1.50 rip off charge at cash machine of course .

Assuming the fares detailed in the taxi fare document accessible via the following link are current, £19.50 should get you 7 miles 220 yards. This would get you from Fore Street to Broxbourne.

After a boozy night out I regularly get a taxi from the Woolpack to the Co op in Bengeo and do not pay more than the minimum charge. You got robbed!

You have been well and truly stiched up, no way should it be that much. Possibly should have been aroun £10 £12 at most for after 12pm. I always use triple A, have come from hoddesdon to ware before just before midnight and only paid £10 and that's further than bengeo.
Next time ask them how much roughly it will be.
