Old Cross Xmas lights
Many people have asked me where the Old Cross lights have gone. Several people thought they were hallucinating and they never existed at all. Roy Roberts thought they had been stolen by aliens.
It happened like this. Piggots offered this triangular icicle and garland display as the icing on the cake. The whole contract was running to time but was always going to be completed just in time for official switch on. So when the garland went up Highways decided that the lamp columns could not bear the weight esp if snow or ice descended or a gale hit Hertford. In line with the work schedule they were erected on Thusday night and had to come down on Friday night followig guidance from Highways.
I am seeing Piggots today and looking at three alternative sites where they can be displayed. When lit they are quite fantastic and really ought to be hung somewhere and not stored in a warehouse until we resolve the issue next year.

Thanks for that explination, I did wonder if I had been seeing things!!! I hope you find somewhere for them that does them justice and complies with health and safety!!!!!

There seems to be a load of lights not working...or are the decorations on the lamp posts not actually lights?

Several (!) lamp columns and power outlets did not have the correct adapter fitted as described by highways. These had to be ordered by contractors and will be completed tomorrow (THurs) night. At the same time the clock mechanism in the columns will be re-timed so that they all come on at 3.30pm - at first on at 4.30pm to tie in with switch on.
The garlands and icicles that were fleetingly observed at Old Cross will be put up in Salisbury Square - hopefully this Friday if all necessary amendments to cables are done.
By weekend Hertford should be finally lit and yours truly will be celebrating with an occassional half at the usual place.

Very Good Work Mr Sloop, I knew you would get all the lights up and running with plenty of time to spare before Christmas.
