He also called the Officer "a nonce". When are EHDC going to stand up to these hooligans?

I love his excuse that he'd only stopped there to drop off an elderly couple, because they were obviously incapable of walking the 20 meters from the proper taxi rank, or even the 5 meters from the road! SOmeone should just block one of them in one night and teach them a lesson

I think the ideal solution would be a three strikes and your plate is suspended rule; if you're caught queuing for the Railway Street rank and it's full three times, your plate is suspended for a month, then two months, then six, then a year and so on. That'll soon get them using the other ranks and stop them parking on the pavement. They want to be glad none of the firms round here seem to have the brains to approach the council and get an exclusivity clause on the rank for their firm's vehicles.

Most of the taxi drivers that use the Halfords rank are independent owner-drivers, like myself, and we don't get much booked work during the daytime. Therefore, to get the little business that is available, we have to get onto this rank. There is only one other rank available to us in the daytime, on Millbridge, but there is very little work there. The Halfords rank is on a public road and therefore available for use by all East Herts taxi drivers. Personally, I'm getting fed up with with the abuse I suffer whilst I try to earn an honest living. I don't rip people off. I don't believe our rates are excessive, I certainly don't earn a fortune for the 70+ hours I am out working each week.

Most taxi's i have used have been fine, never had an issue. I do believe thou that there my be too many fighting for the local business meaning some are bending the rules more and more often.

During this conversation Mr Newman asked the Enforcement Officer to take the letter back, then told him to throw it in the bin, before saying he would throw it away himself. He was advised that he could do as he wished with the letter but that it would still stand. Before he moved his vehicle from the Railway Street/Bircherley Green pedestrian area Mr Newman told the Enforcement Officer “You should get a proper job” followed by “You are a nonce”. The Officer replied that there was no need for this language to which Mr Newman replied “Get a proper job” whilst he pulled away."
