Apparently a Sele Farm resident pulled a gun on some trick-or-treaters on Friday night. Five or six police cars attended the incident. Does anyone know anything more?

It seems that a 62 year old man threatened some 15 year old trick or treaters with a shotgun and has since been bailed by the police on firearm offences.

I can slightly sympathise with him for the fact that I like little children enjoying trick or treating with their parents but teenagers throwing fireworks at your house would wind me up too. However, pointing a gun at somebody represents an immediate threat to life and if armed police turned up at that point he would have been shot, possibly without warning. Oh and then the Police would have been targeted for shooting an 'innocent' grandfather with seven grandchildren. Officers would have been suspended for doing their job and thousands of pounds would have been spent on a public enquiry. .....Somewhat puts into perspective his over reaction.

The daft sod just didn't think and made a mistake. Unless he has got relevant previous he probably will just get rapped on the knuckles and bound over or similar, assuming he and the scroats were both at fault, with no other evidence to support either party in their allegations.. Of course, the old bill could look to make an example of him, on the other hand... As an aside it never ceases to amuse me that Thieves Lane is on the Sele Farm Estate.

The article also mentions that 4 shotguns and cartridges were removed by the police from his gun cabinet after the event. Presumambly the police would have been aware of the fact that he had these and would have scaled their response accordingly. I guess he can say goodbye to his shotgun licence now.

Just read the Mercury today covering this story on page 5 and read one of the yobs involved with this and his claim that it was nothing to do with him but it was a gang of his friends and he will not grass them up, whats he think he is a member of the mafia and now he,s to scared to come outside his front door, well he should have thought about that before he mixed with this gang and his parents or most probably parent needs a good talking to about yobish behavior!

I think the police need to pay this oiuk a visit and ask him for the names of his so called friends and if he refuses to tell them then he should be arrested for obstruction and it may be possible that he is now putting on an act to get money from the criminal compensation scheme funded I think by the tax payer, another few grand down the drain and as for his parents/parent they should think about leaving the country and hang their heads in shame!

It is unsafe to blame all delinquency on parenting. Peer group has far greater influence and that may be chosen by parameters which are out of parental control, such as streaming at school, economic restriction on where the family is able to afford to live, learning difficulties and so on.

I still cannot believe that the police have not arrested this teenager for obstruction because as far as I know it is an offence to let off fireworks on the public highway let alone some one,s front window sill, it may even be possible that this teenager was with this gang at the time in question and his friends run off and he was a bit slow or what ever and was caught and now he is turning it around feigning innocents, but the house holder was also wrong to point a weapon at any one but it just seems unfair that the persons who started this are walking away while other people are now in trouble and had this been America then they may well have got them selves shot but just a tad illegal over here.Most probably his parent,s are delinquent,s as well and just out to screw the system, I still cannot believe that the police have failed to arrest him after what was printed in the Mercury.
