Roundabouts
Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed when you come down to the Gascoyne way roundabout from County hall direction and cars come down the inside lane then cut accross to go onto the dual carrageway to Ware!
As I live in Bengeo I always take the centre lane to come straight across and the number of near misses I have had with vehicles cutting in front of me I have lost count, I always thought the highway code said inside lane to go left centre lane straight accross and right lane to turn right.
Maybe I am just a grumpy old woman!

Marilyn, you are not alone.
It infuriates me. It's not a lack of understanding but blatant selfishness. Some people just do not care. It has simply become the norm.
The worst I saw recently was travelling Westwards on the A414 into Hertford. I was approaching the Campfield Road roundabout, just before the railway bridge and where the 2 lanes clearly merge into one. One of those oversized 4 wheel drive pick up truck style space ships hurtled up the right hand side along the chevrons and onto the roundabout, forcing the car that was already there out of the way.

Roundabout discipline is always the last thing any motorist learns. On average, people finally start getting it right just around the time their eyesight starts to fail....
BTW witnessed my first accident on the newly revamped A1M interchange roundabout at Hatfield the other day. The new lights clearly havn't solved everything!

Yesterday we were cut up on the roundabout at the back of the hosp. we were coming from the mini roundabout and then turning left ontot the 414. Which has its only lane to get onto the 414. Next min an OAP decided he was oging to go from the right hand lane on the roundabout cut across me in to the road that was on my left, which cuts across the ghost island! He didnt even look........stupid driver!!!!!
Good thing our car has good brakes on it!

Years ago, you could go right in BOTH lanes onto that roundabout. I'm afraid you are dealing with the legacy of drivers who choose tho ingore the new rules and do as they please, simply because they used to be able to do it.

I have now seen the most pointless rat-run after a similar eperience yesterday morning. I had just turned left onto the A414 and was cut up by a very beaten up volvo estate. This car then entered the side road on the left that runs parallel with the a414 in front of the terrace of houses. It then picked its way between the cars parked along that road to the end and re-emerged onto a414 two cars in front of me - unbelievable !! how much time did that save?

If you are wondering why the Volvo Estate was so beaten up, it is probably because of his very selfish style of driving.
