Dil's
Mrs. N & I went to Dil's (the old Hot House) last night. We were impressed. It's a lot lighter and more airy inside than it was. The food was good (as far as I can tell, I'm afraid I'm a korma man but the wife had a lamb dish and said it was good) and the service good.
It's so much better with a front door! I assume there always was a nondescript door there but I've just never noticed it. (Please don't tell me there was always a front door! [:I]).
The main restaurant was all done but the builders (not then, in the day I imagine) were still finishing off bits (mostly cosmetic) up the front stairs and in the loos.
The waiter told us it's run by a completely new set of people and not related at all to the old Hot House. He also said that they haven't advertised it at all yet as they hadn't finished absolutely everything off yet (my guess is it was only a few days off).
I think it will be a welcome addition (although I also liked the old Hot House!).

Except for the full page in the Mercury last Friday. A bit difficult to read but it looked a pretty standard menu. However I will give it a go.

Anyone else been there yet? If their menu is "standard" they will struggle. We tried the new Indian at Harlow recently (where Little Chef used to be just off the M11) - food was ok but the experience was ruined by belly dancing to loud music.

My husband and I visited Dils last night. We always enjoyed The Hot House and regularly had takeaways and ate in. However since Dils have opened we have had tried both a takeaway and eat in and feel that the food is nowhere near the quality it was in the Hot House days.
The badami sag chicken I ordered as a takeaway, came with tikka chicken, but was inedible and tough.
Last night wanting to go for something different I tried the chef's recommendations - Haryaly Chicken Mossala - which was chicken marinated in mint, coriander and spinch. The dish that appeared was lumps of chicken covered in a luminous green slime.
When I queried it the waiter said it was a dish for the "English". I asked if colour had been added, the waited asked the chef and came back grudgingly agreeing green colour had been added! My husband's classic lamb curry was tough (The lamb used to melting in Hot House Days).
The pilau rice was not fluffy and seemed to have been replaced with a cheaper inferior version.
The nans however were good and potato dish not bad.
When I complained we were offered brandy coffees but declined.
So much for posh decor and the warm greetings (the waiters appear to be the same staff as before) just give us good food!

We took Mrs P's mother there for dinner on the 23rd Dec and have to say that we enjoyed it. I,too, can't remember there being a door on Maidenhead street but the change a central, street facing staircase makes is a positive one; makes the place feel a little less back-street and a little more of a player. Mrs P & I always preferred the Hot House and I was a bit worried about what the change would do to our decision when we felt like a curry. M-i-Law's lamb passander was lovey, very tender meat, lovely creamy sauce which she felt had enough of a 'kick' in it to please her. I had a Karai Gosht (excuse spelling) which was not as hot as I would have liked and it came across as mild as opposed to the medium I wanted yet the meat was very tender and I enjoyed it very much. Mrs P had a shaslick which was very good indeed. Channa and sag aloo were both excellent and the lime pickle had those tiny pea aubergines in it that I absolutely adore. Service was well paced and attentive even though there was a very large table (non-noisy) at the other end of the restaurant at the same time.
We were very pleased with our meal and the service and will definately be going again.

Tried out Dil's this evening - very attentive and friendly service, food was good and plentiful.
Cost £47 for two which is quite reasonable for what we had.
A Jamesons on the house was nice too. Will definitely return.

The Raj was busy on Saturday so we popped into Dils. I have to echo Leo Densian's comment above about the service and the quality of the food, I must admit I was surprised. Probably not as "good" as the Raj but a very good town centre alternative offering good food at a good price.
