If you are a season ticket holder what use are travel vouchers?

Apparently you can use the travel vouchers when you come to renew your season ticket. It's still a scandal that delays of less than 30 minutes are not compensated for at all - so far as I can tell anyway.

If you don't have a seaon ticket and travel from Hertford North you get diddly squit unless the train is delayed for over an hour.
Because of my shifts I don't always travel by train and if I do it is not always at peak time so usually a season ticket ends up costing me more than buying returns.
I still get the same poor service as everybody else.
