Quaker Burial Ground on Port Hill
Can anyone answer this question please?
Why is the Quaker Burial Ground located on Port Hill when the Quaker Meeting House is in the Town Centre on Railway Street? Is there a reason for this as I have been told this is not the norm?
For example, the Quaker Burial Ground and Meeting House in Ware are both at the same location in Kibes Lane.
I now plan to get out more. [:)]

Perhaps its just sheer practicalities of there not being enough ground space at Railway Street? In the same vein the cemetary for the Catholic Church in Buntingford is a couple of miles away up at Hare Street.

According to Dr Pages History of Hertford the meeting house was built 1670 and a piece of land adjacent was used as a burial ground in the early days though later on the existing cemetary in Port Hill was acquired.
There is a lot more about the meeting house and the quakers but that is all I can see on the burial ground, I can only assume the "land adjacent " was too small and they had to find a larger area.
