Download speed 2082kbps (260 kB/s)) Upload speed 243 kbps (30.4 kB/s) Is this good/bad? Thanks

9870 kbps download; 489 kbps upload. This is slightly faster than last week. Was in region of 8000 kbps and upload significantly faster. Quite good since I am paying for a 10mb service and have two modems in the house. When the the laptop died over the weekend[xx(], I disconnected the router so broadband going through an old aol modem through a ntl fibre connection which virgin bought out some time ago. There is a cabinet on the corner about 20 yards away which might help. Have occassional problems with cable tv; when channel hopping the box usually freezes on channel 119 - which is virgin1.[}:)] Pulling the plug usually resolves this.

quote:It depends what package you are on and how much you pay. I guess you are on a 2mb tariff, so your download and upload speed are about right. Mine are similar to yours at home but I get my broadband free with my phone contract so I'm happy with it.

Following a request two months ago to the 'free' upgrade I've just realised that I am now on the 'up to 10 meg' speed. It's much faster, 9.86 on myspeedtest. Has anyone else received their upgrade yet?

I requested an upgrade through the Virgin website after my modem started playing-up. I then received a smaller black one a month ago having had the original silver NTL one for a few years and the speeds wre marginally better. I didn't re-boot my box, it just happened and was noticeable straight away today how much faster the service is. My best friend has a silver box and his service is showing 9.83, so long may it last.

I think that's right - haven't Virgin started to roll out 100 Mbps broadband. This is megaBITS though, not bytes, so if you're downloading files etc, it's roughly 12MB per second. Still, bloody fast!!

Glad to hear it's sorted out at last, the Indians made a smoke screen signal of that 1 then?
