It would be good to see more promotion of the site, which provides a great service for the town. When we mention it to people we know they are normally unaware of it. Maybe there could be a leaflet drop organised via letter boxes?

Good idea Graham - I don't know if there is a link from the St Andrew Street website, it may be a good idea if not. Also we are listed on http://www.thebestof.co.uk/hertford website, this does quite well on the search engines so a I will ask Steve from this site if a link to Hertford.net could be done. May be window stickers (nice ones) to go in all the shops in the town. There is plenty that could be done and it would be great to have a lot more people contributing and supporting local people and businesses.

Some good ideas have emerged, and hopefully there will be more. While I accept that web links can be useful I think there is a strong argument for using non-web methods to pull in a large untapped market of people who have not (yet) got into the habit of using the internet for finding almost anything they need advice on. So I think there is merit in the ideas of say window postings or getting occasional mentions in the Mercury.

Perhaps a cheap way of getting in the Mercury would be some letters extolling this site's virtues, after all its more relevant to Hertford than the paranoid anti EU rants that fill up the letters page some weeks

such as? the blog is essentially a digest of the forum postings, and the other areas only get updated occasionally. Thats not to say it's not useful content, I guess to a newcomer to the area perhaps. So the huge amount of content you refer to is largely legacy old articles.

The photos both old and ariel etc, what on, links to loacl events, as well as the listings for trades, societies etc (though that could do with updating admin last time I looks some stuff had old names or businesses no longer trading[;)]) there is loads more on here than Zoom

Well, a lot of it appears in the forum first, thats a fact. Probably best to flip it's on it's head - this site wouldnt be as well known or popular _without_ it's forum.

I hadn't seen Zoom but have had a quick look. Quite good as it has got a bit more than just advertising but I agree with the others who have said this is far more useful in that you are talking with real people and getting a lot of independent advice and recommendations as well as the sharing of views. Just nudging back to the original thread, I think Andrew's idea of letters to the Mercury is an excellent one - who is going to volunteer?

I've just seen the scrolling LATEST NEWS bit on the Hertford.net homepage and it said LATEST: Snow causes chaos in town. A bit old to be latest - is that a tool that scrolls the top X number of entries in teh blog?
