Another good place for them to go would be along Bullocks Lane and Hornsmill Road - lots of pavement parking which means I can't get a pushchair by.

I drove through fore street at about 6:15 - loads of cars parked illegally and not a warden in sight. Also the stupid silver mondeo that parks on the double yellow lines at the end of Tudor Way up on Sele hasn't found a more suitable place to park. [:(!] No sign of a ticket on that car either.

They are not just active in the town centre either. I saw a car parked at the end of Port Vale on the corner of Beane Road (just by the Scooby Doo bridge) on Thursday night that had got a ticket. But I didn't see any yellow lines.

You can park illegally without being on a yellow line, ie taking up too much of the pavement.

Is it just railway bridges that attract legendary graffiti? There was the famous "M. Khan is bent" that was on a bridge over the North Circular for about 10 years. There was even a television sketch written about it. And there is the "Big Beer Side" that was on a railway bridge in Edmonton for about 20 years. And we have our very own Scooby Doo bridge.

My wife had a problem finding a place to park on our street today and decided to sit in the car and wait for a place to come free. as she was waiting, on a yellow line, a traffic warden walked up to ask her to "move along". When she explained the situation, he suggested she reversed 20 yards to where there was a gap in the yellow line due to a car in the way when the line was being painted on. Could she park there or would a different warden be within his/her rights to issue a ticket ?

I don't know how this works either? outside my house is yellow lines but people still park on them, they park so far up onto the curb that I find myself virtually climbing the bonet to get into my front door! Yippeee to the new traffic wardens who are booking them all. It was getting so bad that I had to walk down the middle of the road to get to my house! I made my point by walking really slowly down the middle of the road when a car was behind me POWER TO PEDESTRIANS![}:)]

Frenchie, no yellow line no ticket. In fact if you follow the yellow line to it's end and there is no end bar, they can't give you a ticket. Even better, come and park on the double yellows by the Sele Farm shops. You won't get a ticket as the council don't know they are there!

East Herts Council guy was taking down car reg numbers down Bullocks Lane and Hornsmill Road yesterday - the pavement parkers - about time too, impeding the flow of traffic and causing an obstruction at the junction of the two roads. Don't know if they were getting tickets though - hope so.

Ewoowar, I'm sure everyone here realises that not everyone can walk their kids to school. Some people need to drive. However, I had some time off work last year and walked my son to school. I was horrified at the number of parents who lived less than a mile from the school but drove their children to school. One parent in particular would drive her son to school even though it was a longer journey than the walk! I know for a fact that she wasn't in the same situation as you. The walk to school is less than half a mile. Guess what. She is overweight. As is her son and her older daughter. I don't mean a bit tubby but grossly overweight.

First they can nab the pavement parkers, then the ones who park too close to a junction, then the rat runners who stop for too long and then... It's good this forum. A quick rant amongst like minded citizens and off to the pub for a drink. Congrats to the new parents I've been reading about by the way.

Parking on the pavements doesn't come under the traffic wardens remit. They can only ticket cars which are illegally parked on the road. It's up to the police to sort out the cars parked on the pavement.

I have been thinking of a solution to this problem and came up with a few ideas! 1/ instead of charging people (so no money for the council to dig unecessary holes), ban the driver from driving for a week! that way the driver would have to walk or use public transport for a week saving on polution (and you never know they might even get a bit fitter in the process!). Doing everyone a favour! only one problem here, to enforce it would cost the Police a lot of extra money and it would be difficult to enforce. 2/If they get caught say 3 times, parking in town when or where they should not be then ban them from parking in town. The wardens could probably use their computer connected gadgets to remember the number plates. Then if they park once banned they could get community service! Hey! I think I should be working for the council [}:)]

Well, what song sheet do they sing from, not the same one! Upon asking one of the 'Force' was told I could park in front of the private property I work at, then promptly at some hour that I am not awake issue a ticket the next day. My dispute is under investigation having provided 'photo's and the Land Registry thingy proving our boundaries, I think they have no leg to stand on. How many people just bow down and pay the fine? I'm sure the majority are great and just doing thier job, but you alway's get one bad apple in in the pack................ Tigger

Whilst I'm sure that there are miscarrages of justice where parking tickets are concerned, I think the majority of complainers simply don't like being caught out. Its really simple. There are parking rules. Follow them. If you don't like them, complain to the council. The Mercury is simply whipping up hatred for parking attendants because it thinks it is championing what the people (ie sales) want. Just like the Sun are doing nationally.

Parking apart, I would not leave Hertford. And let's face it the parking is not that bad. Try Ware. I used to live there and my road became a public car park. But if you pay your Tax, Insurance and have an MOT you can...... It's when you are parked quite legally and get a ticket that there is a problem! Tigger

Hey a result - got a letter from EHDC, Parking Office - admitting that ET11 had not made the right decision after checking their 'photos of my car he had taken and checking the information I sent in. It would be so easy to give in to the £30 fine and I would have done if I had been wrong. Let's just stand up to them if we are abiding by the Law - maybe they won't get so ticket happy. [;)][:)]
