Focus group could benefit Hertford!
Supporting a local economy strengthens the community: mercury: April 24th
Having attended the latest meeting of the Action 4 Hoddesdon focus group yesterday
was surprised to learn what the Government, East of England authorities and local
councils have planned for us with little consultation with those it will affect the most.....you!
Although based in Hoddesdon the concerns raised here and at previous meetings affect
the wider area which will be drastically effected such as if the Greater Brookfield Expansion is
allowed to go ahead could lead to desolation of Town centres from our County Town to
Ware, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Cheshunt and Waltham Cross and the smaller communities
between. Even Harlow Council has objected as, it is hoped, will Enfield
If further development is pushed through unchecked our green belt will become slimmer!

I'm a bit unclear on what your aim is.. Are you proposing to establish a focus group?
While all the local authorities will develop a Local Development Framework (LDF) these are subject to extensive consultation and even then they rely on applications being made in line with the land uses set out in the LDF. I am not aware that East Herts is currently reviewing their LDF and so am unclear what a focus group would look at right now and what it would achieve.
Perhaps you would consider aligning with East Herts People? They seem to be looking for enthusiastic souls to stand as Independents at the forthcoming elections.
Like I say, just not quite sure what response/discussion you are looking to develop based on this and other postings.

In fact what was revealed at this newly established focus group is infact not as much is consulted about as you may hope and many of us are not aware of what the impact of some decisions may be on our local community whilst I was inspired to write here following concerns expressed in the Mercury on Friday by Hertford Essential Connection and wondered if a new Sainsbury or ASDA or enlarged Tesco will solve the towns needs, especially if Brookfield Farm is expanded, as looks increasingly likly with little if any consultation!If, as is the case Harlow Town Council have taken steps to oppose such plans surely our county town should take an equally pragmatic view. I would also say to the people of East Herts keep an eye on your green belt as whilst it is generally accepted that new homes are needed in this region, just make sure they don't encrouch too for into this essential resource![^]

BUT (Big BUT) the influences that can effect the local comunity can come from out side the bounderies of Hertford!
In fact I do work in Hertford periodically I used to own a resturant there have been to County Hall on numerous occasions been to both courts and was educated by your former (now deputy) mayor!
Am I now qualified to comment on this board?[8D]

I don't think anyone has questioned your qualification to comment on the board, I think people find your posts very difficult to follow, particularly with cross-posting. Perhaps a more succinct and focussed initial posting and a suggestion for a solution to the problems you raise would help engender debate.
For example, I asked you if you were suggesting starting a new focus group and you didn't reply either way. [:)]
