i know not everyone is interested in family pubs but i happend upon the Sword In Hand and it is terrific. trampoline, climbing frame, slides etc, even a goal and a ball. Nice food, really nice staff. I've always struggled finding anywhere to take the kids but this is great - a drive though

In my opinion, the best family pub in Hertford is the Millstream. I cannot fault it in anyway.

The Sword Inn Hand is a fantastic typical village pub........except for one thing. went there a couple of Sundays ago and the whole atmosphere was spoilt by screaming, screaming kids. I won't be going again

I will check this out - never heard of it until now. I have to say though that the Woodman is rapidly becoming my pub of choice these days. I was sat there in the sun with an old mate the other day with a pint of IPA and two chickens digging next to my feet and I couldn't help but think what a fantastic place it was. Living in deep, dark east London makes me appreciate it all the more.

The Woodman also gets my vote as the best family pub. Great garden and activity area for the kids. Shame there's always one group of parents who turn a blind eye to their kids trying to catch the chickens all the time! Doesn't feel right telling other kids off instead of my own.

Pubs should be for adults - not parents with their kids in tow. I think its awful when you see kids running around a pub garden, screaming their heads off, and the parents / adults just sat there getting p*****d in the sun and letting them run riot. 'Family' pubs are for lazy parents who would rather spend the day drinking than having real quality time with their children. [}:)]

I thought Robbo post fairly funny (I take it was kind of tongue in cheek?) I hate going to a pub where kids are running around screaming! Normal pub (ie traditional type) is a adult place where drinking takes place, not a place for kids to play. Take them to a Haverster....

I went away to Chester recently and saw a pub with great sign outside. "Family Hostile Pub" "No Kids" it was full.[^] I do agree though room for everyone. I have never been to the Woodman or the Millstream and don't intend to go there anytime soon.

I don't want to come over as a kill joy but I just had to share this with the people of the forum. I was in great pub recently in hampshire. A sign inside the bar said: 'Dogs are welcome but please keep your children on a leash.' Nuff said. [:D]
