Any suggestions as to which restaurant people think is the best restaunt within 15 miles of Hertford ? I am looking for an anniversary dinner and am fed up with the options in town and well as the usual suggestions of Hanbury Manor and Auberge du Lac. Any ideas ?

Not sure it's within the radius, but The Cabinet at Reed. Consistantly excellent and perfect for a romantic anniversary dinner.

If you like Italian, try Nolita's in Brookmans Park. http://www.nolitarestaurant.co.uk/ From the same stableas Little Italy and Bar Italia in Soho. Great food and service - Italian style.

Not been personally, but Coltsfoot - Datchworth is supposed to be lovely, I've had it recommended to me a few times.

actually i do have a reccomendation - unfortunately it's in hatfield, but it's the beales hotel opposite the galeria. It's an amazing hotel, stunning interior, and very good food! I didnt realise that other place had fell out with the chef, sorry!

Discovered this place in the spring....amazing food and great service, ideal for special occasions. It's about 18 miles from Hertford, but the best I've been to for ages. http://www.antonsrestaurant.co.uk/contact/

Smiths looks good but neglected to say that Doris is allergic to fish so we do to any "Speciality" fish restaurants as there is always cross contamination we have found.. :(

Coltsfoot is definitely somewhere to try - had a lovely meal there and it's co cosy if you get a nice sofa by the open fire for a wee dram after your meal!

Try the restaurant at Tewinbury Farm Hotel - food and service have always been great. http://www.tewinbury.co.uk/restaurant.asp It has been awarded Rosette status too now, although a meal for 2 including wine and coffee will be under £90.

The Hillside in Wheathampstead is worth a try as well, it's owned by the chap that initially opened the Hillside on Port Hill, and we had an enjoyable meal there too! http://www.thehillside.co.uk/

Thanks for your help/suggestions - I ended up booking The Tilbury for this Saturday its a shame there isnt a a pub with a quality, higher end dining room closer. I will let you know how i get on.

A bit late for you now but surely Auberge du Lac at Brocket Hall is the best in that radius, with its Michelin Star and beautiful setting?

Apparently this weekend they only had a wedding on the Friday not the Saturday so we managed to book two rooms for dinner, bed and breakfast for £195 each room. A lovely treat.
