Was in there last night. Not sure how they can not only contrive to make such a c**k out of producing a Margarita (no salt) and a Cosmopolitan (the head barman, to his credit, spat it out) but then attempt to charge over £14 for the privilege. Wouldn’t mind the money if it was a good cocktail, table service, promptly served. Not if it means fighting through to the bar to be eventually confronted by some poor guy, way out of his depth. Suggest you stick to lager guys – although from what I observed the definition of a pint /half pint in there leaves something to be desired. And don’t touch the London Pride if you value your taste buds….

Great post Frenchie, very informative!! A dump is one thing it isn't. There are numerous premesis in Hertford that are a lot worse. Just because you don't fit in with the target market doesn't make it a dump.

Always thought the HHH was alright. Liked the garden area outside for drinks/lunch in summer. Not sure about having a nightclub in the basement though when you have paying hotel customers sleeping 2 floors above. Not a great concept.

Just back from a meal at HHH; food and service were fine, nothing special but all good and we were not rushed off the table, and reasonably priced. The bar felt like a complete meat market from 8pm (before our meal) and I declined the offer of paying £25 to go to the nightclub to get £25 of drinks. Didn't bother staying in the bar as it felt far too rowdy and went home instead. As a single female walking home, it was pretty intimidating walking out in the face of people queuing/shouting to get in. Would happily have a meal there again but would skip the bar and nightclub. Maybe I'm just getting old! [:D]

ha ha, I love it. You really think I have an interest in the HHH? I wish. I don't go that often, I don't even rate it highly, but I also don't think it's a dump. The only criticisms I have about the bar is that they like to make people queue even when not full inside, and that as a guy who has a couple of single mates, there's way too many other blokes in there! Maybe it's this that scares the ladies away. After all, they do say that if you can get the women in to a venue, the guys will follow. Perhaps they need to evaluate their business model. None of this afects me of course, being a very happy family guy!

My partner had the misfortune of being led to this dump last night by the group she had been out to dinner with. 5 mins after getting their drinks a young man, pushing his way to the toilet promplty vomited all over the floor in front of them. Nice...

Nice to see the police at HHH last night breaking up a huge girl fight spilling out on to the street. Even the bouncer said that since the club opened up downstairs its got a lot worse due the average age of clients plummeting.

The club night they are running in the basement of HH doesn't compare to Elberts for an evening out. There is no atmosphere, shocking music by the DJ and a tiny dance floor. For my curiosity i was charged £5 for the priveledge of experiencing the sound of a crap DJ echoing around an empty room. The After Eight shots however are just as good as always...

Oh dear, its not going well then for the Hertford House hotel. I must say i've never been in the bar but i did love the restaurant with its rotisserie chicken and the little deserts. I say did, because last week the Rotisserie chicken had turned into a badly cooked chicken leg, some limp salad and some undercooked chunky chips (yuk!) Plus there was nowhere to go to the toilet, was told to queue in the main bar for the disabled one, dinner about to go cold, people throwing up in there in groups. Lovely. I crossed by legs, ate my chicken leg quickly and left. Doubt i'll be returning. Shame like to support the non chain restaurants in Hertford.

HHH - everything that can go wrong with running a hotel. Great location, nice rooms, decent food (well was) but having a bar/club downstairs with paying "hotel" customers upstairs, looking to spend a quiet weekend away.....wrong. If you want a bar/club sack the hotel off...Concentrate on successfully running one thing, not 4...

At the weekend, I visited the bar area with two mates and I was staggered at how awful the place actually is. Synopsis: A noise of ridiculously incoherent babble being played on the PA system. A long row of women sat facing the bar, sucking on a straw or five, nervously fidgeting. Men parading through the area up and down, up and down, up and down. Lambs to the slaughter, we weren't sure which gender was more vulnerable. Conclusion: Caxton Hill market. It beggared belief that when we left after a long 20 minutes that Deco (or whatever it is called now) had a queue stretching right back to the job centre. How ironic. For the record, Master's House had four people in it. I'll get me flat cap and pipe.

James, quite an accurate description from my recollection of visits there! I'm not a huge fan of the place but if the weather is fine the courtyard is one of the best places to sit and have a late drink, bit of a problem buying the drinks but its worth the wait for the best late opening 'beer garden' in Hertford - I only visit the place on warm evenings as I wouldn't drink inside.
