Family History
Hi everyone, I don't live in Hertford but my family comes from there. My 3x Great Grandfather John Hughes owned and ran the pipe factory on Folly Island and also the Old Barge Inn.His wife Elizabeth and his son John took them on after his death(Don't know when that was, somewhere between 1851 and1861 census).Are there any stories out there of my family, I am having difficulties trying to trace the siblings of John jnr.Thanks for reading this.

I live on the Folly and the landlord of the Barge pub often posts on here so he might have some info. The obvious starting point would be the museum - but this is closed for major refurbishment until early 2010.
However there is still work going on behind the scenes and Rosemary Bennet who wrote the definitive history of Folly Island still has links. I believe she is doing a major revision of the book. If you would like to contact me through profile I can pass on the curators email address and she may be able to point you in right direction.

Hi, I visited Hertford last year and went to the museum and have a copy of the booklet on Folly Island so have that info, also have "spoken" to the landlord unfortunately the only info he has is from the booklet.Thanks for your suggestions.

I have been to the archives but didn't have a lot of time, I hope to eventually go back there when I can get to Hertford. I thought that there may have been someone out there with knowlege of my family.
