At first we will concentrate on East Herts then expand across Hertfordshire aiming to be distributing 17000 copies hertfordshire wide. You question is already answered... http://www.hertford.net/yoursay/topic.php?id=4668 Oh, and from your website: "Gloss mag are looking for people to get involved. we need journelists, photographers and graphic designers do you have what it takes if so then give us a call today." You also need people who can spell, use basic punctuation and understand use of capital letters. This is just an example of the bad spelling and typos that litter the site. Very sloppy and unprofessional. Lastly, from this forum's Acceptable Use Policy: "The Discover Hertford Online Forum is provided as a means for local residents to discuss local issues and events. Whilst a certain amount of digression will be allowed, any thread that becomes dominated by discussion of non-related subjects or personalities will be locked. Advertising is not allowed."

Totally agree Steve, but did you mean typographical errors?

I don't think that kind of reply will help your cause in any way with the users of this forum. It may be an idea to re visit you website and make some corrections to the errors that Steve has pointed out.

Cor! Great spot of advertising quoted above and deleted by GM...but not soon enough!

Whilst quite acceptable for spelling errors to appear in a forum, tweets, blogs and texts, publishers are expected to proof read and spell check. Otherwise, it becomes as annoying as Newsreaders who I've noticed have started using the American inflection on such words as "controversy". I strongly defend any private individual against criticism for such errors and have done in previous threads, but if it's your job, or your business, it is reasonable to expect the ability to maintain the standard form of the language.

You've got to love the news feeds on the web site that are being automatically pulled in, presumeably where 'Hertfordshire' gets a mention. Courtesy of the Farmer's Guardian: "In the bulls Andrew and Yvonne Leedham, Swadlincote, Derby, sold Grangewood William for 11,000gns to Paul, Judy and Bridget Borlase for the Sacombe herd, Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire". Not quite sure what the target audience of posers and WAG wannabees will make of that one...

The printed magazine is just as bad. Full of speeling mitsakes and punctuation. errors (sic). At the foot of the contents page it says: "We have printined 5000 copys of the first issue of Gloss Magazine" They can't even get their own address right, which apparently is 24B Church Road, Little Berkenhamsted.

Website now reads: "We are aware of alot of spelling mistakes in issue 1 - Oct/Nov and on the website. This is due to not proof reading before going to print as the first edition was rushed out. Watch out for the 2nd edition where we will challenge you to find a spelling mistake as a competition!! You have to laugh - it is only spelling mistakes!" alot ? [:D]

We could be grateful that publishing, rather than gas fitting, is their chosen path for experimentation.[;)]

And I had to laugh at this. Having written sales pitch documents I know how fleeting a first impression is. No proof-reading is no excuse.

Irony rarely comes across on forums, especially when used without smileys.

Am I right in thinking that the editor 'Wesley' is a young chap and that this is the start of his publishing empire? Mr Murdoch had better watch out! [:D]

my husband tried to set up a new Magazine for Hertfordshire but found potential advertisers (and therefore the income stream) just too tough to crack...shame because it was a lovely effort (even if I am biased) and well received when he sent out a test run to those who had advertised (for free).

I notice a few other publications of the same name on Facebook, I do hope the Americans don't try to sue him for naming rights!

Hi Gloss Magazine I know you're not supposed to advertise here but I'm a freelance copywriter/editor/proofreader who's always up for work. If there really is a spelling/grammatical problem I'm your man. Since I also organise loads of the local musical events I also know exactly what's going on.

There are two commas missing from the above three sentances. Anyone who can spot them, gets the job!

This is, by far, the best thread I've ever read in any forum. Pure genius. I was thinking that perhaps Admin could add in a spell check or grammar check facility when you post a message....

azza You, clearly, don't, understand, the, proper, use, of, commas. They form clauses within sentences (not sentances). They are unnecessary after 'and' and 'but' and apart from that it's simply a matter of personal taste whether you choose to stick them in or not.

[:D] Nothing like abreviating something entirely meaningless to make it even more meaningless, eh?
