Christmas lights seem to be going up earlier every year. What is the switch on date for this year? IMO it takes away any of the magic and mystery for children when they are up so early! Might as well leave them up all year round and save the cost of installing and removing them. Also, how do they help towards reducing carbon emissions? And, exactly how do Christmas lights perpetuate the Christian myth?..............Christmas.........Bah Humbug!

There are some new ones in Market Place and Railway St I think which is good as they used to look bare. Dont know anything about a letter asking for donations, but it doesnt seem unreasonable to ask for a small contribution.

Which was very considerate of them for the numerous people turning up at 4.50pm having to explain to their kids why the lights were already on. You can't advertise a public event like this for a set time and then do it early. I know there were people who had been there for a couple of hours in the rain, but I didn't really fancy doing that with my daughter.
