War Memorial Names
During some research, a relative has found reference to an anscestor who was killed in action during WW1 is listed as residing in Hertford.
Does anyone know if there is a list and possibly more information about those names that are on the Hertford War Memorial?

This is about the war memorial but the link is not working.
I am sure there will be transcriptions somewhere.......need to try to find them.
Do you know which parish he was in as he will probably be on the one for the parish church as well.

The Town Council paid for the memorial to be properly cleaned and restored some years back so its possible that an enquiry made through the Town Clerk may get a result. Although I'm not too sure the present incumbent was in post at the time; but Cllr David Poole, the Mayor who is member of the local British Legion might have some info along with Cllr Russell Radford, member of same organisation.

What sort of information are you after? Have you looked at the Commonwealth War Grave Commission site for his burial place? You will then get his regiment (if not already known) and then you might be able to contact the regiment for more info - if its available. A lot of WW1 records were destroyed in the WW2 blitz

Also if his records do exist they will be on Ancestry, I have a subscription to that so if you would like them looked up PM me the details you know, name, age birthplace etc. and I will willingly see what is on there for you.
