that strikes me as a bargain! I've seen done-up barges with mooring rights going for anything up to 100k. You could even rent it out! anyone want to go quarters? ;p)

Are there any access issues? I know there have been on the stretch between the lock and Marshgate Drive.

That is cheap. The mooring must be up for renewal. Saying that is gets bloody cold on barges in winter! I think i might put a bid in. Always wanted a barge.

I've looked at a few moorings around the country and most of them suffer from no right of access from the land side. If I'm right, this one would require there to be an easement across the industrial estate property. As for the boat, if anyone is considering it, do have the hull properly surveyed, (ultrasound, if it's steel) and take into account lifting and maintenance costs.

That's the mooring my sister-in-law had when her and her partner were living on a narrow boat (dont think the boat is the same though). There wasn't any problem with access then, parking space for the mooring and an alley to the plot itself. That was a fair few years ago mind you and the mooring has been done up since then, but I wouldn't imagine the access has changed.

Just checked on Google Earth and this is by the scout hut at the end of Marshgate Drive. The access issue came about after the old Pearces bakery closed and the premises changed hands. New gates were put up at the entrance to the premises and the boatowners were no longer allowed to park at the end of the car park from where they could access the boats. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Hertford,+United+Kingdom&t=h&ll=51.802817,-0.069362&spn=0.001,0.002312&z=19 The Google maps picture above was taken before the gates were put up. The boatowners cars can be seen at the end of the car park. The plot in question is adjacent to the largest block of the factory on the left, next to the scout hut (in the shade). You can see the small steps from the hut down to the river in both the aerial view and the photo on eBay.
