Single Ticket Question
I have to go to Essex this evening to collect my daughter from the in-laws and I've bought a single from Hertford North to Grays. I work directly opposite Fenchurch Street station, so I just thought I'd give this a shot - use the ticket to get me to Aldgate station, work for the day and then use the same ticket to get from Fenchurch Street to Grays. Tjis is the exact same journey I would have done if I was doing it in one go, but I just wondered if the ticket barrier machines were intelligent enough to know that there was a 10-hour gap between my ticket going through the barrier at Hertford North & Fenchurch Street??
Any ideas?

I think the overground train systems probably won't care, unless its a peak/off peak situation.
I do a Hertford to Leigh-on-Sea journey occasionally using the same routes as your trip to Grays and on occasion I have spent the day in London before continuing on to Leigh, it wasn’t a problem then, however that was all offpeak.

A bit of a discrepancy on train ticketing for the different companies. If I was to buy a return to Grays in Essex from Hertford North, the the return journey is only vlaid for the same day. However, if I buy the same ticket from Grays, the return journey is valid for one month. Why does FCC not allow returns on anything other than the same day but C2C does? I asked in the ticket office and they told me that it was because Hertford was on a commuter route. When I explained to them that Grays was closer in to London and has far more commuters than Hertford, they couldn't offer any further explaination.
Yet another FCC rip-of I suppose

I just checked online and there is an anytime return valid for 1 month from either Hertford N to Grays or from Grays to Hertford North. it is the only return option from either end.
