A child's bike was stolen from the garage. It all happened between mid-night and six this morning.

On the subject of bike theft , just reading in the Mercury about the bloke who had his £5500 cycle stolen in Ladywood Road . Now i appreciate he has his own cycle training company , but unless your going to the Olympics , you dont really need to spend 5 grand on a bike , do you ?

Back to the original message about the car theft... unfortunately my car was broken into in what the police call a very unprofessional job - otherwise known as a door bend - take that to mean any brute force attack damaging as much as possible... only an old station car but means no point claiming on insurance as it would immediately be a write off... does anyone know of anywhere decent to get breakers yard doors resprayed and fitted for no great expense??

The forensics guy who examined our car on friday said it was the worst door wrench that he had seen. A tool was put around the door at least 4 times in an attempt to open it. He also said that it was an amateur job - he'd seen pro jobs like tis with less damage. The snow and dampness meant that he was unable to get fingerprints, so he took glass fragments and paint scrapings. This was all he could do in the circumstances. Our local PCSO, who first attended, said that bike thefts were the most common crimes at this time of year and that they were on the increase. If you got a bike - lock it away properly
