Everyones getting worked up about parking to the point that Del will need a liver transplant soon. What are your suggestions..go back to a parking free for all ?

I'm in agreement with Nicky on this one. It is people being lazy. I went to the dentist on Bull Plain yesterday morning before work at 8am. I parked my car in one of the free parking spaces in there, and at that time of the morning there were quite a few spaces left. As I came out someone else pulled up right outside the dentists and parked on the double yellows right outside the front door almost blacking them. There were 5 free parking bays available to him (I counted them). Too pig lazy to park in a proper parking bay and walk literally an extra 10 yards. I also agree with the Council's idea that charging for parking bays improves road safety. The less cars are parked on a street the more chance a driver has of seeing that child that runs out in front of him. And freeing up the parking bays in premium positions means that those who need them have more chance of using them, such as disabled drivers and their passengers.

I wish the council would enforce the residential parking restrictions as well as they do the town centre!

what are the regulations? people in our road often park with 2 wheels on the grass verges, which leaves an unsightly muddy mess, and also part on the pavement, as someone with 2young uns in a double buggy I have often had to cross the road to pass..also today in Ware Rd someone was parked in their drive but jutting out right across the pavement..I was sorely tempted to walk over the car! this is another instance where it would be good to be able to send a text or to mobile someone, if they started handing out fines I feel it would soon pay for itself.[:(!]

maybe the only way to avoid parking fee's is to buy our own road, then again dont we pay for them already in all the tax that we pay! mrs del

Wingnut, parking on the grass verges falls within the jurisdiction of the police. If you are that peeved about it, write a strong (but not an offensive) letter to the chief inspector at Hertford police station. I work for a local authority in London where the true definition of irony is paying your parking fine whilst parking your car on the double yellows outside the office where you pay your fine!

Traffic attendents are being a little flexible. I found one this afternoon standing next to the Sele school minibus parked on a double yellow. He was looking at his watch and clearly reluctant to ticket it. Driver returned a few minutes later - had he not I suspect he would have found a sticky on his windscreen.

I'm not sure even buying your own road does the trick! I part own our private road, but we still get public and commercial vehicles parking on it. Wost still, some belong to residents who simply ignore the rules of access.
