textile student needs help
ok here goes.
is there anyone out there who can help me. im looking to put up a bit of an exhibition for a part of my current project on my degree. all i want is a bit of space somewhere, a small function room maybe? for a small exhibition or some place where i can put some work up for a while. maybe a bit of unused space that could maybe be rented for a week? it would be even better if it could be used from the 9th - 13th may 2005 so my tutors would get the oppertunity to see it in situ. basically the idea is to get my work out in the public.
i really appreciate any help it will be my first time .

I believe Hertford Museum still offer space such as you require. Worth giving them a ring. Don't think they charge either.

hertford museum thats a good one hadn't thought of there, oh i forgot to mention what i do. i am currently creating/designing fabrics using felt and other wool inclusions and print. and it can be in surrounding areas to if this means anyone else can help here.

The Salisbury used to have a function room and it (used to be) inexpensive to hire.

Ware museum put on exhibitions that they change periodically, but they don't have much space so may not be able to help.
Also the libraries sometimes let you put up displays - if your work is fairly flat then it may be suitable too.

An extremely long shot but as a 'charity' Bircherley Green may offer you space in shopping centre for free as long as you are there every day to 'put up and take down'. Will have words with site manager as I use his office occassionally to get warm on my walks around town.

thankyou all the help so far has been fab. i have jotted down some of the ideas given so far and i am going to try calling some tomorrow. i have even found someone who could print my up ome proffessonal looking postcards and bits. i really appreciate the help.
del - i saw on some of your other posts you had somthing to do with the sportsman, i put it to my work collegue who frequented the sportsman (regularly im sure) and hence the connection to jo.

Had a chat with Bircherley Green. Space would be free unless you wanted to sell your work at which point it becomes expensive. You'd also have to put up exhibition boards etc etc. But there is a lot of footfall through the centre. If you want any more info you can email me from profile.
