Does anyone know why Sugar Hut hasn't been open over the weekend? I thought it had been quiet on Thursday night and was walking by late Friday and Saturday and it was closed :-S

Not sure if the 99p drinks on Thursday and all you can drink for £15 on a Saturday will survive the latest legislation/"advice". The Licensing sub-committee meet on 14th to discuss the review of the Sugar Hut's licence. I was referring to the late 1980's when they had 1 hour of 2 for 1 cocktails only on a friday night from 7pm til 8pm - not the same as the Sugar Hut's all you can drink for £15 deal [8D]

Just heard (from my eldest) that it was £3 to get in last night with drinks at £1.50 so its good to hear that they noted the licensing magistrates concerns about cheap drinks promotions!!

The Sugar Hut epitomises what is wrong with today's society and brings unwanted idiots to our fair and prosperous town. Please don't think im some old 'stuck in the mud', i'm 36 and have had licensed experience in the town. In my day, and that weren't so long ago, we went to Zero's and possibly pulled, but usually not, but had a good time and went home. Now, these management idiots from Sugar Hut have chosen to defile our town with £15 drink-as-much-as-you-can-till-you-fall-over-sick-or-stab-someone promotions. They deserve everything that is coming to them, and the DPS should be prosecuted.

Vote with your feet, don't use the establishment! Eventually they won't be able to keep going. I am pretty sure their HQ in Essex (says it all really) isn't doing so well financially so we can keep our fingers crossed I hope...

Hertford Sugarhut was mentioned in the (london) metro today!! It didnt exactly cover itself in glory - they apparently refused admission to a lady for being too big (size 16 which is hardly huge is it). (well they say it was dress code based)

My daughter is now (unfortunately) of the age to go to Sugar Hut and was invited to the launch party, when she came home she told me that they left early as a lot of the boys they were with had been refused entry due to not being dressed properly so I have to say there is some consistency in the code; at least on the evening in question. I'm only trying to give some balance to the story - not defending SH - but it does seem to have been quite strict on the evening in question. I'm also sure that SH are quite happy with all the free publicity!

I didn't even realise it had re opened. Might have to pop along next weekend and see what all the fuss is about. Mind you, i'll remember not to wear a Superdry shirt otherwise i won't get in...

I don't like the place but to be fair, the woman was probably not turned away because of her size. My colleague's daughter is a big lass who goes there regularly. As Golden says, the door policy was obviously very exacting that night and the offending 'lumberjack' dress in the picture isn't very glam or clubby, it's the sort of thing the girls in my office would wear to work. If only the Sugar Hut were as picky about checking the fake ID of the under-age kids who go in there, or about refusing to serve people when they are drunk.

To be fair to the sugar hut they are not the only place that dont let people in because of dress, I have been (sadly) turned away from the stonehouse for same reason. I do not work for the sugar hut by the way and I would never ever ever consider going there anyway.
