there where plans to add a travel lodge type thing on to the sele arms but didnt think that it was going to happen so soon, might just be a refurb for now! i know that the manager in the ram who is about to leave wanted the sele if it did get the travel lodge bit, perhap henry didnt get it and thats why he is leaving![:(] sad to see him go always friendly[:)]

They are planning to make it into a Carvery/pub grub pub. Which in my view is a fanstastic idea. At present you have to jump in your car if you fancy a nice bit of pub grub at a reasonable price.

Pub Grub - No car? The new guy's in the Sports are now doing 'real' food, limited menu however, haven't tasted it but look's OK - or the White Horse alway's have a great Menu and a Mondy night special. Good prices and good food.

From Port Hill, it then ran along the edge of Hartham. I think there was a 'Hertford Central' station at the bottom of Hartham Lane behind the brewery. The 'long' car park (near Folly Island allotments) is built more or less on the old railway embankment and bridge. The line then crossed Mill Road where the old council depot was (until last week!), and joined 'behind' the East Station.

Had a quick pint last night with a pal, unfortunately we were the only 2 in there. No food on a Monday or Tuesday, but a cavery every other day of the week. Apparently Saturday and Sunday was busy in there.

So a lot has been said about Jamie at the Millstream and how sorry you all are that he is not behind the bar at the Bridge House so you can enjoy his wit and charm. He is really a great guy and puts up with a lot of jibes from customers. His wife and step daughter, Elaine run the Bridge House, Elaine has been a chef for the past 12 years, you can be sure that you will get great food and great beer. I just wonder if Victor etc, ever have anything nice to say about anyone, would you like them as neighbours?

If you actually knew who I am, you would quickly realise that I am one of Jamies regulars and someone that actually enjoys regular conversations with the man. Can anyone explain to me why Mac's closed this place down for a refurb and then managed to re-open it making it look the same, if not worse than before? They had a blank canvas to re-work this pub, which I've never seen have more than 10 customers (apart from Sunday lunch). So, they close it, spend stacks gutting it, paint it the kind of green you only find after stripping back layers of paint in your bathroom and put the most lairy carpet in I've ever seen. AND IT'S STILL EMPTY!! Anybody know why? Is it because of the proximity of the Port Vale pubs? Such a shame as it could be a great pub. It's obviously because they dont need the money due to making a mint charging commuters for the car park.

I thought that I may have split my time between there and the Millstream, but after one visit I decieded that getting 2nd hand lung cancer in the Milly was more enjoyable. A few comfty sofas some better lighting nice meals maybe a decent wine list ect ect that would attract more people as they got off the train. Come on, who really wants to eat a carvery every day of the week?

Is it just me, or do McMullens run some of the worst pubs in town? Think White Hart. Think Dimsdale (thankfully closed long ago). Think The Dolphin (also no more). They seem to have a number of pubs that just drop off the radar as far as quality is concerned. Is it that they're just a bit careless with their portfolio? Pushing the likes of Baroosh whilst overlooking the shortcoming of some of their other establishments.

Wide snack menu might help but suspect as previous postings demolition would be preferable. This is a truly awful pub (and I use the term pub in its very loosest context) with no atmosphere, decidedly dodgy décor, and a clientele who have doubtless been banned from all other pubs! Used this regularly some years ago when commuting and whilst it had its shortcomings it did have sufficient attributes to call itself a pub.

I popped in again last night to escape the monsoon that hit just as the train pulled in. It was raining so hard I expected the place to be full, but no. About 8 people (which is probably the busiest I've seen it since the refit anyway!). Why dont McMullens admit they screwed up, close it again and give it a proper refurb this time.

Agree entirely with what you say Bart, there seems to be a certain section on this forum that are totally negative. When you defend a person or place, you end up with a a dozen or so members (all with the same point of view, makes you wonder if they are a little gang) all pointing out that the reason a pub is not doing well is because the colour of the paint/carpet is not right, is this person in touch or what. I am sure the police give out information to newspapers with as much accuracy as they can, reporting what they have witnessed, why should they lie, come on, lets be a little realistic here.

I can't see it ending up as flats, as the majority of commuter parking for the train station uses their car park. Maybe the train company will purchase the land and turn it in to one big car park? I'd quite like them to bin all the commuter parking in tehre really, install a big kids playground and beer garden in there, although that will worsen the parking situation on surrounding streets

I was in there last night waiting for the missus' train to arrive ( iwas actually suprised to see it open since it had been closed for most of the week). Only the bar was open and there were 3 people in there when I arrived. The first pint of Guinness (extra cold) was as flat as Kiera Knightly too! I hope these new people can sort it out. They have a huge catchment area and tehre's no reason why it can't be a success as long as they realise that in it's current format (i.e. old boys boozer with lurid colour scheme), it's always going to fail. It needs a major turnaround, otherwise people are just going to throw money at it for nothing.

After a lengthy telephone converstaion with Sam, trying to point out that none of my comments on here were ever meant to offend or distract business from the Bridge House or the Millstream, she is still adamant they do not want my business, which I will repsect and not return. However I feel deaply upset by this, as in my mind I have only ever been complimentary regarding Jamie and his service in the Millstream.

Maybe just get a job-lot of white paint in to cover up that geren stuff

Victor, I have again read though all of your postings and after consideration think I may be a little unfair. I have been under a considerable amount of stress since before Christmas, although not an excuse for unreasonableness. I along with Jamie want to keep a happy atmosphere in the Millstream, and we have only ever asked two peole in three years to stay out of the Millstream. Please accept this as an apology, I did not mean to single you out, it was unfair and totally unlike me to react in this manner. ou are of course, welcome to come to the Millstream if you wish to do so. Sam, I accept your apology whole heartedly and only wish that the whole nasty affair had not happened. I would also like to state that my comment after the so called "oracle" was meant as a light hearted reply to the correct meaning of the word "Oracle" (I looked it up and I did know exactly what it meant) and did not ever mean that I agreed with what he had to say. Personally regarding the Bridge House I have only ever been disappointed that it not suit my own personal tastes, as having tasted Elaine's cuisine before, I was looking forward to seeing the type of menu she originally tried in the Millstream a couple of years ago.

In a recent posting on this forum, an untrue comment was made regarding The Bridge House in North Road and the condition of the premises when it recently changed hands. Discover Hertford Online would like to apologise for this comment and any distress it may have caused the former tenants of The Bridge House.

I have been in the Bridge House several times over the last couple of weeks as the weather has been nice and the missus has met me off the train. It has really improved and I shall be frequenting for the World Cup as the Duncombe gets too busy. New Landlord is a top bloke.

What about getting some proper wines in? I went in recently and the poor wine coupled with the smell of frying oil put me off. McMullens have got a very good wine list which I assume is available to all tenants/managers. See the Salisbury and Baroosh for details of what I'm talking about.

Just a small note untill further notice there will be no karaokes or bands at the bridge for at least 4 weeks due to a problem with licencing a small hitch but nothing to worry about jam at the bridge is starting to take shape i am getting some good info on local bands and the such but keep the info coming see un-signed bands (jam at the bridge) on the forum
