Cosy Country pub for lunch
Hi want to book a Christmas lunch with some friends on a Saturday prior to Christmas any ideas for nice food, cozy pub etc. Thinking so far Farmers Boy, Brickendon or The Grandison but any other ideas?

I find this place completely void of any atmosphere and far from cozy...Its only attribute is its sunny garden.

The White Horse in Castle St., on the other hand, is extremely cosy and Chris is now offering a choice of excellent homemade food.

Also they have now fixed the old problem that used to occur sometimes (under certain weather conditions) of smoke from the fire backing out into the left hand bar.

unrelated to this, or perhaps subconsciously because of it we popped to the cowper on sunday afternoon, was great! Fires roaring, no christmas tree yet though. And busy, without being packed.

Although a schlep out of Hertford, The Chequers at Woolmer Green has recently been refurbished and the food is consistently good, I have to declare an interest, I use this pub on a regular basis. The beer is well looked after as well.
