NXEA consultation on Hertford East services
National Express are consulting on proposed changes to the Hertford East service. These are tied into the new rolling stock being introduced for the Stansted Express services in 2011. Essentially, they want to speed up the airport services and this would involve holding Hertford services at Broxbourne for what they say will be 3-4 minutes while the express goes through.
We lost the semifast services in 2005 when they took the paths to enhance the Stansted service. Now they want us to lose out again. Hertford East services would take 57 minutes to reach Liverpool Street. I don't have the pre-2005 timetable, but didn't it used to take around 40 minutes on the peak service? Adding stops to Tottenham Hale put several minutes on the schedule. Since then they have also added time to reduce the number of late arrivals, to take it to the current 53 minutes

Its a joke, All the operators who have run this line over the years see it as an expensive distaction and would happily close it down if they could. Once again this branch line is being downgraded, almost to the point of making it unviable as a proper commuter line. I gave up 4 years ago, and now drive to Broxbourne.
So in reality a 4-5 minute wait in Broxbourne and more than likely cancelled at the slightest sign of disruption on the line.
I urge people to comment strongly on this, its an issue that is relvant to the prosperity of Hertford going forward...

It always used to wait 4-5 minutes at Broxbourne for the fast Stortford train , was great to hop off the Stortford train straight on to the Hertford , is there anything like this in the consultation to happen again ?

There doesn't appear to be. Although it makes me wonder why Hertford Branch trains cannot be looped round fast services that stop at Broxbourne going into London so you can have the oppotunity to hop accross? Question now emailed to the consultation (although I'm not holding my breath) [:(]

I did exactly the same as Frenchie a few years ago and commute from Broxbourne - the Hertford East line is too unreliable and the service too infrequent to make it a viable option for me. This is a real shame as it just puts more cars on the road. There would need to be a minimum of 4 trains an hour to make it an option for me and for it not to be shut at the first whiff of a problem somewhere on the network. Having to resort to replacement buses or taxis is just a PITA.

I actually moved closer to HFN to get out of using that line (and because of a vitriolic noisy neighbour making my life hell [;)])
