Digital Radio Reception
Given the variable quality of FM reception around Hertford, particularly of my current fave XFM, I am looking into buying a digital radio.
However when I typed my postcode into www.digitalradionow.com I was rather surprised to find that there are only 10 stations that I am "very likely" to receive, none of which were operated by the BBC and certainly not including XFM.
The BBC channels were actually listed amongst the stations I am "fairly likely" to receive.
If anybody has a digital radio can they say whether the listing on the above web site is a fair reflection of what can be received in the area.

I'd imagine it's variable like digital TV. It depends where you live in Hertford. I can get XFM fine in the town centre on 104.9. Just wish they'd put Lauren on in the morning instead of that O'Connell wazzock.

It's pretty poor tbh and I live quite high up on the East side of town. I also overheard a conversation at Albany Radio (the Electrical shop in town) after Christmas; the lady was saying that they had sold an awful lot of radios over Christmas but had lots returned as the reception is so poor - I believe she does warn people about poor reception. I've seen a few bargains Digital Radio style in the window, maybe returns?

I live at the bottom of Port Hill and I am unable to get any of the BBC stations on my portable (more like luggable) DAB radio unless I take it upstairs. I can get many music stations, but being an old git only the "gold" stations and Arrow (wonderful discovery) are of interest to me.
As far as Freeview is concerned, I have a normal arial pointing at Crystal Palace and get good reception.

Blakey, I have digital radio and I get good reception where I live in SG14 near the hospital. I went on the website you gave and it seemed to give a fair representation of what I can get. We also get good Xfm reception over here on 104.9 fm although the signal must vary locally as I lose it in the car on Gascoyne Way/Ware Road then have perfect reception half way to Cambridge which is pretty good going for a London station.
Storm is an OK digital station, a bit like Xfm and Radio 6 is good. We get good reception for Kerrang too.
Lauren Laverne is indeed a goddess, Steve, but Christian is good - and what's the alternative in the morning for those of us who can't stomach Thought for the Day? That humourless fat ignorant **** on Radio 1? Our very own local Steve Folland on Hertbeat 106.7/9 fm is actually not bad but unfortunately the fact that Hertbeat's playlist consists of 5 songs, 2 of which are by Sting, renders it unlistenable.

I have no problems with any of the BBC channels where I live - across the Beane from North Station. Most others seem fine too though there are one or two I can't get. Biggest problem is interference from things like the microwave.
I can't get XFM - though I haven't tried upstairs.

There is a constant battle in our house...Mrs F. has Virgin on all the time then i come in and switch to 5 Live or Talksport.

Mr Tigger was going to buy one from Albany earlier in the year and the nice lady did then advise him to wait. Interesting to here what its like now.

I can always get all the bbc stations,oneword,virgin and about 5 others ,On a good day(very rare) i can pick up about 20-30 stations cannot work out why it is so different on different days.Took the dab on holiday to the suffolk in the summer and got nothing.

If you just want the BBC Digital Radio Channels then you can also get them on Freeview.
Depends if you have a line of sight to Crystal Palace or Sandy Heath or not though.
(admittedly doesn't help Blakey get XFM)

If you have sky, then try getting a sky gnome, its a portable receiver so you can listen to all the channels on sky wherever you want to, its great. No problems with reception as its through your sky box.

You can have an external aerial for DAB - but of course most sets only have internal aerials and it doesn't help it being portable ...
The postcode website is supposed to be fairly accurate, so as a good indicator believe what it says.
And if you want to listen on the train you'll find it pretty patchy all the way.
