Is it only me that finds the proprietor of Botsfords hardware shop a miserable sod? Arrogant and unhelpful is an UNDERSTATEMENT ! Come back Stuart !

ha, well dont worry too much, they're not renewing their lease apparently, so wont be there much longer! (Although this couldhave changed, maybe it was just a negotiating tactic)

Shame if it is going. I always have found the staff helpful. I park in Queens Road and then I am in Botsfords and out in 10 minutes max with all that I need. Please - not an estate agent, hairdressers or nail bar.

Will be a shame about Botsfords; it suffers by being the place to go when you've exhausted other options and not always a first choice. As for the proprieter - OK he's not the most jovial character I've ever come across but I've always found him friendly and helpful.

Helpful if they actually had stuff in. Half of the time he'd run out of basic things - so trot up to Focus it was.

I find Focus very limited. I never found Botsford had run out of anything.

I have always found the chap in Botsfords to be helpful. I spoke to Malcolm Henry (used to be the manager at Harry Shepherds in Hertingfordbury)on Friday, and he said he had heard Botsfords was closing. Between them Botsfords & Shepherds catered for most of the less common requirements of the people of Hertford and surrounding districts. Malcolm's business (Henrys of Hertford) now stocks quite a lot of the products that Shepherd's stocked but Malcolm agrees that it will never be the same as the old business. He says he is expanding the stock range as fast as finances allow and would be delighted to add the sort of products stocked by Botsfords, if there is sufficient demand. I think we should support the small businesses in the area and not just trudge to the the local DIY store whose staff have little, if any, product knowledge and enjoy watching us queue at the single open till for 20 minutes. Henrys of Hertford is in Warehams Lane and has it's own parking!!

Thanks to Tiger.1000 for this info - copied from his post in another section of the Forum - more appropriate under this heading I think - There's no smoke without fire ! Rumour has it that reluctant Tony is about to depart from Botsfords in Parliament Square and it will soon "under new management" I am reliably informed that all sorts of interesting things will be back on the shelves like old fashioned woodscrews wth slotted heads...PROPER imperial nuts, bolts and screws. The delivery service is going to resume and so on an so forth ! WATCH THIS SPACE
