NXEA 2011

First working day of the new year, all trains prior to 7.39 cancelled so this one is packed, stratford service still not working and of course the ticket prices gone up. Didn't really expect anything better just wanted to winge in public :)

Yep it sucks, the Stratford service has been down for weeks now, i had hoped a new franchise would have come in by now but it will be a long time yet due to a franchise review currently being conducted + word on the vine is that the coalition (well the Tories at least) are sympathetic to National Express and have indicated that NXEA may keep the route anf the C2C route as well. The trick is to pay the Tories more than National Express so they favour us rather than NXEA but I doubt even the good people of Hertford could afford that big of a bribe. Rant Over.

That is why I never use Hertford East. Hertford North has its problems sometimes too but in comparison it's a lot better than the HE line. Plus, not sure if this is an error with the machine but my monthly from Hertford North to Bowes Park has gone down in price, only by a few quid but considering I was expecting an increase I was pleasantly surprised. Did anyone else find this?

I travel from Ware but have a Hertford Stations season to London Terminals so I have alternatives when the service goes down (of course, it also lets me travel between intermediate stations, which comes in handy). The Hertford monthly ticket used to cost the same as Ware, but now it is £5 more, so they seem to have been tweaking the fares a bit.

The double station was a reason we decided to stay in Hertford. However, I've found I can get from Victoria to HNorth, walk home to HEast and arrive 10-1 5minutes earlier than travelling Victoria-HEast. And I get some exercise, which is good. [:D]

You'll all be pleased to hear about their sharp rise in annual profits then. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12566477 [:D]

Perhaps they can give us some compensation for the continually late, overcrowded, short formed trains ...

They gave me back £50 due to the Stratford train being cancelled every day for a month over Christmas, unfortunately it was in rail vouchers which are pretty useless as i have a season ticket. [:(]

Demand a refund. You are legally entitled to that as you did not receive what you paid for. If you bought something from an electrical shop and it didn't work you would demand a refund, wouldn't you? I see that there have been complications again this week on the Hertford East line.

How do you claim a refund ? the service recently has been as bad as i've known it

there is a form at the station. i was reading the leaflet earlier. any service more than an hour late i think it said (or maybe it was 30mins?) gives u 50% refund of the single ticket price, or pro-rata ticket price if season holder.

50% for over 30 minutes, and 100% for over an hour - but as you say, pro-rata for season tickets.

Travel vouchers are valid for a year, and I use mine in part payment for my monthly season. I don't know if the rules are different for an annual ticket. You'd have to be unlucky for them to expire just before renewal.

I use this website to claim for any delays. You can fill in your details once, select the delayed train from the list and it will fill out a form for you. Print it off and send it Freepost to NXEA. Season Ticket holders can get money back in the form of a cheque. I used to claim up to eight trains per day even when I was in jail for fraud. http://delay-repay.com/index.php P.S. The fraud bit was a joke but the website is very useful.

Just when you think NXEA could not get any worse.....so some services are 3 minutes faster but now other services don’t match up and the average wait (if changing from Hertford - Broxbourne - Stratford and visa versa for example) is 30 mins. Is there some kind of petition we can sign that would highlight dissatisfaction to the Government in order to get a franchise terminated?

No need. Their franchise ends next February and they've been told not to re-apply.

I thought that the NX were back in the running after the change of Government.

I have now; I don't expect they will do much as I’m sure they spent a lot of time and resource on this. But you never know. Thanks

So this marvellous new timetable increasing the amount of seats means that the direct trains that get in to Liverpool Street around or before 9am has gone from: 0525 - 512 seats 0605 - 636 seats 0635 - 636 seats 0709 - 512 seats 0739 - 636 seats 0809 - 636 seats to 0525 - 514 seats 0605 - 257 seats 0628 - 514 seats 0658 - 514 seats 0728 - 514 seats 0758 - 460 seats A loss of 795 direct seats!

But the trains no longer call at Waltham Cross, Enfield Lock, Brimsdown and Ponders End, calling instead at Edmonton Green and Seven Sisters. It won't affect us in the morning particularly as we are at the start of the route, when seats are available. Biggest issue I can see with this is numbers travelling in the evening between Seven Sisters and Edmonton, or possibly Cheshunt. We'll also be getting more comfortable trains cascaded off the Cambridge route - the ones with higher seats and toilets.

The only question for people to consider on these trains is: Jersey or Fresian. Which one do you want to be?

Both ticket machine and kiosk out of order today, so you can't actually buy a ticket. Looking forward to explaining this to the staff at Liverpool St. Update from NXEA website: 10. What if the ticket office is closed and the self-service machines, including the ‘Permit toTravel’ machine, are out of order? If this is the case, rail staff will be aware of the situation and you will not be liable to a penalty fare if you board a penalty fare train without having first bought a ticket. The status of ticket issuing facilities at penalty fares stations is reported to our retail control centre which in turn advises authorised collectors by pager. Permit to Travel!? Never heard of it! [:(!]

Issued from a separate machine. You put in what you can (say 10p) and get a ticket and then pay the difference at the other end, They have the machines at stations closer to London. Maybe depends on the official hours of the ticket office.

There was a "Permit to travel" machine at HE but it was removed. Ticket office is meant to be staffed at 0700 - however if the train that becomes the 0709 is late or cancelled (as happened at least once last week)the person staffing it can't get in! Problem I've found at Liverpool St is not persuading them that you can't get a ticket (they roll their eyes in resignation). It's the time it takes with their, not particually fast, handheld machines - you can queue for ages... Fortunatly working from home today (or blantantly not as I type this out) back to this russian roulette of train lines tommorrow....[xx(]

Yup there were three "revenue protection officers" in yellow at the head of three slow moving queues when I got to Liverpool Street this morning, I queued for 5 minutes to buy the ticket I couldn't get at Hertford East. When I was at Hertford East this morning the kiosk was still open but the queue was snaking round the ticket hall and back into the station!

Well, just for variety this morning, the machine was working but the kiosk was shut! When I bought my ticket from the revenue protection officer at Liverpool Street (who was more sceptical this time!). I asked how long I should be reasonably waiting before giving up and getting on the train and she said "you should get there 5 minutes before your train". So, there you go, if you get there more than 5 minutes before and can see that the queue take longer, just get on the train! (of course you lose time the other end getting the ticket) Rule 8 in this article backs this up.

Can anyone shed some light on the new timetables for NXEA, it looks like there will be no direct trains back to Hertford East in the evenings (ie, what as the 6:15pm) ?! Snapshop below from the .pdf here on NXEA website [xx(]

It's in the first and third columns of the snapshot. The arrows at the bottom mean it's the same train.

Because you can get to Cheshunt and Broxbourne more quickly by leaving Liverpool Street on a leter train. This method has been standard practice on timetables ever since I can remember (i.e BR days)
