trafic signs
is it me or are trafic signes nil and void these days. i seem to follow the signs that state the lanes are changing from two to one just to see several cars drive over the hatched areas of roads then cut everyone up on the roadabout. this practice seems common. no one seems to inicate so i'm supposed to be phsycic?? or do people just need to learn how to drive correctly now that courtesy is dead and its every person for themselves [xx(]

There are some selfish drivers on the road, but conversely there are the drivers who are too courteous. These are the ones who will dutifully queue up in the left hand lane because the road narrows to 1 lane 3 miles away.
If people used the roads properly then there would be less scope for these selfish drivers.
I think we are probably arguing the same point of view from opposite directions - I'll shut up.

cautious drivers can be a danger on the road, you can even fail a driving test for hesitation but the people i'm on about think they own the road and all other drivers should move out of there way!! they will be in the wrong lane going into a roundabout and rather than indicate to move across they just drive at you, so you have to move over even though its there fault they were in the wrong lane.... sorry bad day on the road today[:(].....come back the days of running a pub when you only have to go down stairs to get to work[:)]. the other thing that annoyed me today is people double or tripple parked in roads making it almost impossible for a single lane of traffic to get past[:(!]

I am sure that a large number of the traffic problems we encounter are fueled by this kind of selfish driving too.

i'm not supprised that road rage exists when people have to take there lives in there hands every time they get behind the wheel because of selfish drivers...[:(]

Those roundabouts could do with camera's to fine and give penalty points to those idiots who think they own the road,and can cut up everyone else who is patiently queuing.

The classic one is the A414 coming into Hertford just after the railway bridge, with the back of Hertford County Hospital on the left.
The Left hand lane is clearly marked Left turn only, so those going straight on should be in the right hand lane, what happens all the time is drivers "in a rush" belt down the left hand lane and straight across the roundabout forcing their way inti the right hand lane the other side of the roundabout, the left hand lane that side is a feeder lane which invariably has traffic in it.

Has anyone worked out how to negotiate the new traffic lights at the Tesco Hatfield roundabout, coming from the A1 onto the A414 to Hertford?

Yes You need to start in either of the right hand 2 lanes as you come off the A1
It is slightly counter-intuitive but easy once you get the hang of it.
The trouble is that there are lots of drivers who try to start in the wrong lanes - despite clear markings on the road saying A414

Or the old git that decides to cut across the feeder lane into the residential street on the left - without taking into account other road users.

I know the theory - if you follow the writing on the lanes, you have to move to the left lane just after the first set of lights on the roundabout, into the space vacated by those turning left towards Stanborough. But... my analysis of the problem is this. Loads of people NOT turing left clog the a414 designated lane, meaning only one lane is vacated for A414 bound traffic instead of the required 2. And so anybody in the right hand of the 2 lanes who chooses (quite rightly) to turn onto the 414 at the same time as an incorrect left lane hogger, squeezes the center lane 414-only car into a tight spot. WHEW!

How about they put up a sign at each entry point on to the roundabout showing which lane to get into. The road markings are no good in heavy traffic as you can't see them!

went away to the north east drivers are polite with manners let people out dont cut you up it was a pleasure to drive.
