Is there a new craze in Hertford for young drivers to show off to their girlfriends and jump the traffic lights. At the light in old cross near library in two days I have see a red Vauxhall with a noisy exhaust just drive straight round 4 cars waiting at the lights and sped off up St Andrews street and today a black (maybe corsa) do the same, pulled out passed 3 waiting cars and sped off right across the lights towards town, if anybody had been coming the other way at same speed they would be dead. shaking head in disbelief[:o)]

If you see it again, get the number and call the police on 101. They may not be able to do anything after the event but they should be aware that it's happening.

This isn't new. Idiots have been behaving like this for years. The next generation of idiots will no doubt do the same.

I'm afraid it's not just youngsters. Go and try to cross the road at the traffic lights in Ware Road with the junction of Mill Road by Tesco. People exiting Mill Road in particular seem to pay no attention to the lights. It happens so often. Why don't the Police do anything about it...or is it seen as not worth the bother?

Old Cross has a camera is it working and is it every watched? I think they could make a killing there with fines for light jumpers, mobile phone users etc!

What are they for then if not people jumping the lights? I have seen it move to follow the traffic, at last I thought that was what they were doing.

I believe they're on a preset programme when it comes to their movement and what they look at. I doubt very much they're permanently watched by a human being (they feed back to a central monitoring facility in Stevenage as I recall).

So what are these cameras actually there for? A drunk coming out of a pub is hardly as threatening to life and limb as someone jumping a red light. Why can't they be used for watching/recording traffic as well?

You would think in these days of technology(sp) some one would have come up with some sort of automatic sensor that would detect light jumpers and activate the CCTV................after all it is a very dangerous activity. I realise it is not practical to have them monitored all the time. Maybe the new police phone number will encourage more people to report these things.

ive noticed an increase of this on the rush green rounderbout aswell, which i think is a dangerous ronderbout as it is ! not just the individual but a group of cars !

Or do we just notice the idiots who happen to drive boys cars more than perhaps the more mature driver who makes a stupid mistake at a junction. A WRC jumped the lights at the roundabout at the bottomof London Road yesterday, heading West. I assumed it was deliberate but I'm sure other drivers have done this before by accident.

I think you have more worries of idiots in the wrong lane over the rush green roundabout and at the bottom of the hill. People do not seems to read road markings.

Its not the car jumpers that are the only problems, there were some moped (wasps!) that did it in front of me at Old Cross two nights ago and a youngster on a BMX, no helmet, jeans round his knees who cut across two lanes of waiting traffic, narrowly missed the bonnet of the car coming from St Andrews street as he peddled furiously towards Hartham. How do you report a cyclist when they have no number plate and most all look the same to me!!!! grrrr [:(!]
