Great British Beer Festival
Mighty Oak's Oscar Wilde has been voted Champion Ale at the 2011 GBBF. Save yourself the cost of travelling to Earls Court in London to sample it, as it is a regular guest beer at the Old Cross Tavern.

Yes, but unfortunately does not only imply visiting the said tea rooms (which I can just about deal with) but also passing money over the counter; something I'm a bit less keen on.
But hell, with the current shenanigans at the White Horse who knows...
At GBBF on Friday, so hopefully will get a taste (& see The Bad Shepherds – Ade Edmonson's Folk/Punk band who were at Folk at the Oak last week & are damn good)

You say Oscar Wilde mild is a regular guest there. Whenever I go in there are 3 Mighty Oak beers on the handpumps so it's definitely not a guest! I've been begining to think that the Old Cross had become a Mighty Oak tied house! Which is a shame as I can't stand their beers.
I'd love to see Hophead or Brewer's Gold back on the pumps. Beers with hops is what Bev needs to get in.

Why are some of the regulars at the White Horse so sniffy about the OXT. Most real ale patrons are quite happy to frequent both establishments. Even some of those who habitually refer to "Tea Rooms" have been known to go there.

Not so much the place, although the reasons behind the Tea Room jib date back to the unfortunate renovation & movement of the bar, years ago. To have a such a pub dedicated to good beer is a massive plus for Hertford. Speaking personally I will happily go there, if asked , with chums/ or said regulars of both. The reasons behind my comments relate in to one personality, the details of which I will not go into on this Forum. And to be fair, said individual & I are civil, even polite to each other, when we do meet. Others in the WH however I cannot speak for ….........
Anyway a tad O/T....

As Dark Star's Hophead is something of a regular feature in the Old Cross Tavern I am not sure what Bengeo Bob is getting at, although I thoroughly endorse his request for a return of Crouch Vale Brewer's Gold[:)]
