Local Business
I think we should keep the Town alive by keeping the Local Business alive. Albany Radio were great. My shiny new Toaster didn't work - not their fault they simply changed it no question - would the big stores do that. Wonderful service from Marshall's with new bed and a 30 minute delivery time from East Herts Electrical on a new Washing Machine, delivered, plumbed in, old one removed - from the 2nd floor. They know about their products and you don't have to spend a whole day at home waiting for them to arrive - no more Currys and Dixons for me.
We also hae the best Fishmonger, Cycle Shop, Music Shop, an indepdent book shop would be nice but I think that may be a little rivaled - this make's Hertford what it is, let's keep it [;)]

the book shop opposite waitrose is good and can normally get what you want[:)]

I really champion East Herts Electrical. They have every tiny weird and wonderful spare part going, they know everything, and are so trusting. I had a new fridge delivered and they wouldn't take payment until I confirmed that I was happy with it, some days later.
A real gem of a shop.

My favourite is Botsfords - I went in there to pick up some bits and pieces to make some nunchucks, the guy ended up giving me sound advice on how to make them ("that'll never hold if you give it a hard enough swing, try these instead")
You just don't get service like that in Homebase.

If Botsfords don't have it (and it's a plumbing piece), they'll often recommend the plumbing shop on Bull Plain who have been equally helpful.

I like Colin Sykes the Jewellers, in Bircherley Green. If you want handcrafted products, or even cheap as chips stuff such as a replacement leather watch strap, or a travel clock, they will repair, add the batteries whatever. They have some lovely trays of earrings for the ladies that are not as expensive as the one's in the window, but great for presents for friends or yourself. Apart from which, I look oogling at the diamonds in the window.. they are a girls best friend after all!
