...closed eastbound at Cross Lane/Gascoyne Way roundabout. Traffic's almost at a standstill coming into Hertford from Hertingfordbury and the west, also backing up a bit westbound past the Which? building on Gascoyne way. Hope it will be clear by rush-hour.

There's a badly smashed up car rolled over onto its side, and a couple of tipper lorries stationary with drivers being interviewed by the police....eastbound by the old jet garage . Part of the low garage wall demolished too.

How does one manage to roll a car outside Waters at lunchtime? Surely the traffic is too dense for excess speed to be carried through there?

Unfortunately I think it is probably quite easy to reach excess speed at lunchtime on this stretch of the A414. Cars travelling West at this point even more so.

It looks from the damage to the wall that the car ran up the wall which would easily flip it over. WRT westbound I'd imagine its quite easy to get up to 60mph in that area - also I live near to the fire station and cars/vans going up the hill manage 50-70mph quite easily by the time they are passing Stanley Rd.

Which is why the police speed camera is sometimes there.
I am stunned by the speed and aggression of drivers on the A414 through Hertford.
Trying to exit Riversmeet, just before the Esso garage, you look right and there is no car so you pull out and a quick glance in your mirror alerts you to some would be Lewis Hamilton with a death wish hurtling towards you, often with lights flashing and occasionaly trying to overtake before the road narrows to a single lane.
God knows at what speed they chucked their piece of tin round the roundabout junction with Cross Road before slamming their foot to floor to accelerate towards light speed.

I agree, pulling out of Riversmeet is always dicey. People do seem to go very fast around the roundabout and from the Riversmeet exit you have a very short field of view, not even being able to see the roundabout. It's almost inevitable that you will cause someone to slow down when pulling out.
