What is the building down Vicarage Lane?
Near the railway bridge, just off the road, there is a corrugated iron building that appears to be being held up by scaffolding. If it's worth preserving in this way..what's so special about it?

Its some of the old buildings from when Waterford Heath was a working quarry. All being well they will be gone before long.

I have often wondered this and thought maybe there are bats in there which could be why the building still stands?

I hope not, it's a nature reserve, leased from Lafarge for the next 80 odd years.

As faar as I know there are not bats there. That little bit of land is not actually part of the reserve lease.

I recently had the pleasure of an accompanied walk around Waterford Reserve with the Reserves Officer and a couple of very knowledgeable locals. The trust has already made start on a huge amount of work. I understand demolishing this building is in the pipeline. Nice to see a neglected treasure finally receiving the attention it deserves.

An application for the demolition of the barns and the restoration of the land to incorporate it into the reserve has just been submitted to EHDC. See 3/13/0699/PD.
