Honest, please explain how it is hypocrisy if I don't do it? I stick my car in the car park. Thats it. Its not hard. The hypocrites are those who moan about the traffic in Hertford, and then, slap there car on the double yellows, while they nip to the cash point or take away. The best think the town could do is privatise the wardens. For all their "over zealous" actions, we would have a historic county town again, rather than the car dump that its quicky becoming.

Can someone tell me what the form is with Parking attendants and parking on the kerb around villiers/railway/townsend etc ?. Are we allowed to park on the kerb as i never get a ticket. I am a resident. Ta

As far as I know it's OK to park on the kerb so long as you leave room for pedestrians.

Actually, it is illegal to park place any part of a car on a pavement, regardless of the pavement size. Its one of those things that has got blurred over time. Most drivers also don't realise that a pedestian has right of way over a car, if a car is turning into a road where someone is crossing, even if there is not a designated crossing point.

The traffic warden duties are being privatised by October 2004 according to council officials and they say "the illegal parkers won't know what's hit them"!

I hail from "Lost Angeles, " and the traffic enforcement people are today's version of pirates. No due process, these people do not even observe their own rules, very high fines...absolutely out of control. Also, I understand there are many perks..such as trips to Hawaii for the highest no. of tickets written/month. These are actually employees of Lockheed (not even city employees), I have been advised by several folks. Talk about quasi-officials operating under "color of law!" God bless, all!

I got a parking tkt in West Hollywood once - just for parking in the wrong direction!!!! Worse than the London Borough of Camden (well, almost). what does it matter what direction you are parked in, for Chrissake? these nasty men with notebooks do transAtlantic relations no good at all.

The was a policewoman in the town centre at lunchtime ticketing all the illegally parked cars.

I think you'll find that until 31 March the town will be blitzed every so often by uniformed police who will book inconsiderate parkers; just to remind people that they can't do what they like. As the last remaining warden has now gone on to greener fields (somewhere perhaps where there are no yellow lines) the police have agreed to honour their commitment to enforcing parking restrictions at least until the end of the financial year when the wardens would have been withdrawn anyway. What happens on 1 April is anyone's guess as the date for the introduction of decriminalisation keeps being pushed backwards. Then I read that EHDC are all in favour of an outside agency doing the enforcement. As we know these companies only interest is in collecting as many fines as possible, usually from anyone silly enough to leave their back wheel on a yellow line. According to EHDC, Joe Public will blame the agency and not them. Not me guv!!
