Took little P swimming today and parked in the parent and child spaces. As we were leaving an oap decided that it was too far to walk from a few spaces further down and park in the parent and child bay![:(!] This i find quite anoying as there is only a few parent and child bays and to make matters worse they weren't even using the pool they were going to play bowls. Personally i tihnk they should put parking meters in and you get a refund when you pay for your swim/gym session.

I think Tesco in Ware used to have a scheme whereby you applied for a permit, rather like a disabled one and this allowed you to park in the Parent/Child Bays. This was probably personal to Tesco but could be a suggestion to the Council. I'm sure it would be open to abuse when the Children were not in tow but that's a risk run with anything. Don't these people realise not only are they there to make life easier for the Parents getting to the shop or wherever but they also prevent damage to cars in normal sized spaces when trying to manover the child. I'm all for the spaces for those that need them. Mine however is too big to been seen in Public with a Motherlike creature [:I]

I have a parent and child permit in my car for Tescos. But it is not patroled so again the spaces are abused.

If we could lobby for a council run scheme that may involve at least the public car parks - as if our Traffic Patrol Guy's are not busy enough already.[:o)] At least they could get the Guilty rather that the Innocent [xx(]

Swimming = Exercise ? Why not walk to Hartham ? You'd be warmed up for swimming, save money on petrol, not have to worry about parking and do your bit for the environment... just a thought !

What about if they have young children? Consider that if someone lives on the Foxholes estate and has a 7 year old that wants to go swimming, it would be ridiculous to expect them to walk. Please consider eveyone elses predicaments, before making rash suggestions.

Steve the pool manager looked into a permit scheme, but was told that he is responsible for the swimming lessons, not the car park. It is thanks to Steve, I think, that we don't have to pay to park here. Having 2 Saturday morning swimmers myself I get frustrated by the parking problems here too, especially when the footballers use it. (not Bury Rangers, who are generally pretty good about the parking situation, but the senior sides that have visitors that don't appear to understand the parking arrangement here). I don't grumble because 1) I could walk every week if I got up a bit earlier 2) I know the pool have done their best to sort this out and it is an ongoing headache for them 3) I don't want the council to start charging for this car park, which is what they will do if they continue to get grief from the public about it.

Car parking is a problem everywhere. I am a member of Cannons gym and have recently been told that people have started parking there that travel to London from Hertford East. Surely with the amount of money that Cannons charges they would be able to get some car stickers printed up to display in their car park???

I have just written a comprehensive report on town centre car parking which will most probably not see the light of day but will be presented to East Herts Council as further evidence of the harm that their parking policy is having on Hertford especially their steadfast clinging to the Pay and Display system. I spent a lot of time with the management team at Focus and Matalan and their concern is that commuters, town centre workers, shoppers, Cannons Gym members and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all, all use their car park resulting in a real loss of trade to them and a concsequent flow of shoppers away from Hertford to Brookfield Farm and other out of town centres where there is plenty of parking and it is free. The motorist will not pay to park if they can find suitable free parking anywhere else - that I'm afraid is the reality of life in Hertford and I suppose everywhere else. Hertford, not being a large town endowed with large car parks and with two commuter stations serving a wide hinterland is suffering more than most. At least one councillor has remarked that if the parking problem is not resolved then all the other things that we want to achieve to bring propsperity and a safe environment to Hertford just cannot happen. And no, I do not have the answer - but am willing to listen. Perhaps I or admin, ought to start a new thread.

A Rash suggestion !! to cut down on pollution, have less stress from not being in your car, not have to worry about where to park.. i dont feel thats rash ! Indeed it is a fair walk from parts of Hertford to Hartam but there is a Bus service to all parts of town. Ah you say but its no good on Sundays, why not bicycle, there are those fabulous attachments that clip on to the back of an adults bike that your youngster can sit on, great fun for all. At the end of the day my comment was to try and make people think about car use and alternate ways of getting from A to B. And once you try them you'll find there a lot more enjoyable to. Petrol is now 90p a litre and we all know that it will not get cheaper, road congestiopn and parking is allready and majour problem, just look at how much of this forum concerns it ! Do people think that somehow by magic this will get better ?

Are you realted to Ken Livingstone by any chance? What should people do when it is chucking it down with rain? or they have 2 kids? A bike is not a solution, especially with all the polution around, that would be very bad for them. I dont do buses, so can not comment on that, but I imagine standing at a bus stop that is 10 mins walk from your front door in the pouring rain, would not float the average car owners boat.

I had a day off last week and went to Cannons early (can never lay in!) at about 8am, The Car park was three quarters full, and the numbers in the gym and pool, was no where near the number of cars parked up outside. Tescos do occasionly have a private parking firm issuing tickets, Saw one the other day getting cars parked in the drop off/collection bay and disabled bays.

Sounds good to me - didn't we have a similar service a while back - Dial a ride or something [?] Don't use Buses but there always seem to be a lot at the Bus Station, they must go somewhere [:)]

There is and easy answer to making people think a bit more about there care use. Forget all these silly ideas about satellite tracking and charging depending on what road you use and what time it is etc.. We all know that this will cost us 100's of millions and never work properly. Get rid of Road Tax and put up the Tax on petrol ! The more you use your car ther more you pay. Easy. £2.00 a litre sounds good !
