I am asking admin to add a photo here for me to see if anyone can identify where it is. [img]../images/forum/Hertbury1202.jpg[/img] It is possibly the Old Rectory at Hertingfordbury but don't want to go down a private drive to look so wondered if anyone can help or any other ideas where it might be.. I can only guess at date and who they are, it may have something to do with Stephen Austin but we don't really know for sure Marilyn

I shall go through my books and see if I have any old photos of Wallfields to compare it to. I have found an old photo of Wallfields in one of the books, it is a different angle but the windows don't look the same so I think Steve is right and it is not there.

How old is the Old Rectory? This building looks like mid 19th century, but of course it could be an extension. The style of dress looks Edwardian to me, just look at those ladies ankles - what brazen hussies!

I've looked at pictures of the building on the Goldings web site but can't seem to make the two fit. If it is the Old Rectory, could they be Addiss factory workers? Or - how about Panshanger and the people are estate workers?

Thinking again it could well be a staff photo as there are no children and no really elderly people so maybe I need to see if I can identify the people in the centre in the wicker chairs who presumably would be the "bosses"

I could be completely wrong, but the first place that popped into my head was 'Scott's House' opposite the end of Amwell End (directly facing the level crossing). I think it used to be a school or offices. It's probably wrong, but popped into my head, so thought I would share!

I have found a couple of pictures on line not sure if it is the same house though it is certainly similar and probaly same age. I will look for that book. Scott House/ Amwell House is now part of the college but was at one stage the building used for Ware Grammer School. It was lived in by the Scott family of Scotts Grotto fame! But it is in WARE!!

Just to let you know I have now identified it with the same on in the museum. They have it as 1920 Gilbertson and Page staff at the factory in Tamworth Road. It would make sense as the Gt Grandfather of the person that owns the photo worked for them. I have now had contact with someone researching G&P and he thinks it may be the family home of the Gilbertosn's Mangrove House as Tamworth Road was as far as we know just the factory. Have managed to we think identify 3 people in the photo Mr George Mansfield who worked for the firm for many years 3rd from left front row, he died 1923 so it was def before that date. Mr Albert Stacey Gilbertson owner centre in the spats Possibly Mr Johnny Reason who worked for them for many years first young man sitting a chair on front row right next to 3 ladies. If anyone else can indentify anyone we would love to know. One of them ought to be Mr Page I assume?
