It's A Knockout
Did Hertford or any of its neighbours take part in the BBC's popular 70's programme, It's A Knockout?.

Hi Arty, Hertford took part in It's A Knockout against Ely and got heavily beaten - it may even have been the biggest winning/losing margin ever! I remember it as a highlight of my very young days so was probably early 70s?

"Ely became the second team to lift the Eurovision Trophy in 1973, after winning just about everything they possibly could in the 1973 tournament. They ripped into Hertford in the domestic heat, recording the highest winning margin ever achieved in It's A Knockout - 19-1. Hertford didn't win a single game, their single point coming from a drawn event. Ely's high score gave them the 1973 Knockout Trophy and they were similarly successful in their heat in Arnhem, Netherlands".

Facinating stuff, thank-you! - It's a Knockout was always on as a child, and as someone with a curiosity for the media, this website has brought back a few memories. We had a 'quiznight' question about it at the weekend, which prompted the query..[:)]
