Gascoyne Way Car Park
I just wondered if there had ever been any suggestions of a 'pay on departure' scheme at Gascoyne Way at all?
I am sure I have seen something on this in the past and wondered if there had been any developments at all?
I ask because I have just got my second parking ticket this month after being park for slightly longer than expected due to meetings at work over-running. A problem that would be instantly resolved if I could pay for the time I've used upon leaving the car park. I am sure that this would also suit many other people?
I am guessing the reasons it hasn't been installed are because of installation costs of new machines and barriers etc - though they would save a fortune on not needing the small army of parking attendants that call Gascoyne Way their home.
Thoughts?

Thanks for info and Links Steve - most useful.
I am sure there are many people like me who's day doesn't always fit into timed chunks and can be unpredictable - and I bet the revenue from parking tickets caused by this exact problem is an incentive for the council to keep the existing system.
I do hope it gets changed soon - it would make like simpler for all those that work and shop in the town centre.

You can use the RingGo pay by text system that allows you to top up your parking if you need more.

Whilst we're on the subject, do the council still intend to plant some ivy to climb all over the car park as it used to? I notice they planted some Boston ivy or similar last year but it was in about February and the frost must've killed them. You can still see the plastic tubes in place that were supposed to protect them. I'd be happy to do it myself if they want to give me a few quid to buy the plants!

Well, this morning I decided to be proactive - got up a little earlier and found a nice space on Queen's Rd (after asking a nice young lady to move her car back a little so I could fit in - she was so engrossed in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' that I had to knock on her window twice!) - so Gascoyne Way won't be getting and dough out of my pocket today (or ever, if possible).

Lol - I have walked into town a couple of times, but it's a long walk (from Hertingfordbury) and risking my life to cross the dual carriageway on a daily basis isn't my idea of fun.

I haven't used it myself, but I understand that if you are a frequent user of the carparks for work purposes you can get a discount and pay in advance - have I misunderstood this? Perhaps you could investigate the potential of cheaper long-stay parking in Gascoyne way car park...

It's a 20 minute walk down the Cole Green Way, or 5 minutes by bike.

Drama Queen - thanks for the tip - I will look into it.
I have walked the Cole Green Way a few times, but only useful if the weather is good, and walking St Mary's Lane can also be dangerous, especially in rush hour (no pavement at all)
I do think more should have been done to make Hertingfordbury accessible by foot when they built the dual carriageway - but that's another story.... :o)
