Pop Up Shop
Whilst visiting the darkest reaches of the East I was listening to the local radio. They had an interesting section about Tendring Council pop up shop. They have now opened their second one.
Could this be something that Hertford Town Council could encourage? Would it assist in some of the empty shops? Would it bring some more variety in shops for the town?

Subject to funding, I think this is an excellent idea, although I suspect Hertford would be well down the list of potential candidates for government support, given the relatively low level of empty shops in the town (9% compared with a national average of 14%).

Correct.
Plus the fact that the Dog & Whistle is hardly a pop-up shop either as they've signed a year long lease.

I had a really good night at the D&W last night. In the style of a private party and without a bar, the atmosphere is unique and a great asset to Hertford's social scene. Most of the guests and performers were known to the excellent host and hostess. She sang and he was DJ, which gave it a nice amateur feel. It's a much nicer crowd than most venues and mainly made up of artists and musicians. I think I might have been almost the oldest one there[:I], but what the hell.
I really hope this doesn't fall foul of official constriction on such hybrid businesses. It's an asset to the town. No doubt about it.

Had coffee in there a few times, the man running it is an engaging host and I like the random stuff lying around. If the music nights are made up of people like him, it would a good evening, a big asset indeed.

It certainly seemed different when I walked past and probably in keeping with the style and feel of the place.
