Have you looked in the Museum, they have section on Road in the photo kiosk that may have something, or the areal views that have been liked to on here or the archive at County Hall. There is hopefully a book coming out on that area, Queens Road and Bailey Hall etc possible next year

Hi Marilyn, thanks for the tips - I have been into the Museum, but never seem to have enough time to sift through the amazing photo library! I shall have to try and make some time. I look forward to the book, and as a keen and semi-pro photographer I would also like to offer my services (if you need a photographer on this project at all!) Thanks Lew

I used to live in the property which was demolished to build Queens Court flats. Part of our garden was compulsory purchased to construc tHale Road. We moved further up Queens Road in approx. 1970. I am sure that my parents will have pictures of what was No. 10 Queens Road. I will keep you posted.

No Photo but no 4 Queens Road was called "The Nut Walk" and was lived in in 1911 by the Purkiss-Ginn family. Not sure exactly where that would have stood though, I assume it was one that was lost to the road?

Hi Mavericke, this is interesting are you certain you have the number right. My own family used to live at No. 10 about this time, they owned a coal merchants business in London.

Hi Jasmine98, my Grandfather owned a coal merchants in Hendon, London, this is indeed interesting. I was born in 1955 at Hertford County Hospital and lived at No 10 Queens R%oad until we moved to No. 85 in 1970. Apart from a brief spell in Tamworth Road in 1958.

There was a house at the bottom of Queens Road where it used to join Castle Street called "The Nut Walk" apparently very beautiful gardens and well know. Demolished for Gascoyne Way.

Yes, I have seen 'The Nut Walk' mentioned in one or two of Peter Ruffles books I think. I am sure the white gate posts are original to one of the houses. It would be so good to find out more about this forgotten stretch of Queens Rd. Fingers crossed someone will find some pics at some point in time. I find it hard to believe that no-one took a shot of these houses before the Gascoyne Way ripped them to shreds.

You won't have to wait too long there is a new book coming out later in the year about Bayley Hall and Queens Road, I will let you know the title and publication date when it is decided. The Nut Walk was owned by the Purkiss-Ginn family in 1911
