Sainsbuys out of date food
Just bought some rollmops from Sainsburys and they are 4 days out of date ! Now got another trip to take them back. Didn't bother checking the dates as I was going to eat them today.......don't think I will now.

I'd eat them - its not worth the bother and roll mops are unlikely to be any different four days after a "best before" or "use by" date than they were ten days ago!

I was passing this afternoon and popped them back. Got an apology and £5 plus price of roll mops. Most proberbly would have eaten them but I was feeding them to my aged mum who is not too well at the mo so didn't want to take a chance.

If anyone reading Darcy Sarto's post thinks that what he/she has said is right, we might as well just pack up our bags and forget the shopping experience.
The 'best by' date is there for an 'eat by' reason.
The 'use by' date is there for a HEALTH reason.
We should all challenge these bloody retailers and Sainsbury cannot even get the sandwich stock in date order.

Stargazer's original posting was not specific as to what sort of "out of date" they were. I don't think I was expressing a generally cavalier attitude to food labelling was a good idea but roll mops are, specifically, a preserved product and probably will last longer than stated.
I, personally, do have a more flexible/interpretive approach to dates on food packaging but would agree that feeding same to elderly, very young or otherwise vulnerable relatives is not to be advised (unless you are looking to inherit earlier).
